Aaron’s Mechanical Services Helps You Save Money On Your AC Costs!

Do you think that “Aaron’s Mechanical Services Helps You Save Money On Your AC Costs” is a rather bold statement?

We sure don’t think that is too bold a statement.  If we weren’t sure of it we would not say it. Consider that from needing a tune-up, proper and complete repairs to a replacement unit when needed we can help.

If we look at Tune-ups, repairs and replacements as three very different and distinct services and three different reasons for the needs we know that each one and for different reasons all will save you money on your future energy bills.

Tune-ups
Properly running air conditioner units use less energy (think lower costs) than ac units that are not properly maintained.

When it comes to operating your air conditioning system in the heat of summer, energy efficiency is the key to savings. The less energy the system expends, the more money you save on your monthly utility bills. Although each part of the system has its own purpose, every element is interconnected to one another other. A single faulty component can impair your system’s performance. That will compel your air conditioner to run longer to reach a comfortable indoor temperature.

Cooling systems require regular tune-ups to ensure that all the parts work in harmony with each other for optimal energy efficiency. While you can perform some air conditioner maintenance tasks yourself, such as cleaning or replacing the system’s air filter, it takes a skilled and qualified professional to ensure that air conditioner to operate at its peak efficiency.

Repairs As Needed
If your HVAC system has a problem it will have to work harder or run longer than a cooling system that is running at its best efficiency. That means it will consume more electricity and end up costing you much more money than an AC Unit that is running correctly.

When Replacement Is Necessary
At some point in the life on ANY Air Conditioner (like any machine) it will need to be replaced. Replacement should only be considered when necessary (You might even say when replacement is the only real option.) In some cases, however, replacement can become desirable when a new unit will run so much more efficiently (again think saving real dollars on a monthly basis) than the existing unit that it makes real economic sense do a replacement.

Looking for fast and fair HVAC service? Aaron’s Mechanical Services wants you to stay comfortable all year round.  Most important we want you to spend the least amount of money possible while you stay comfortable. If your air conditioning system or HVAC unit needs service or replacement please think of us and call at 623-388-4436 and we will come to you and solve your cooling Unit service needs.

Have You Used Your Car’s Air Conditioning Yet?

Have You Used Your Car’s Air Conditioning Yet? That might seem like a very strange question coming from a company that works on ONLY residential and business air conditioners. But, if you are finding that you need to cool the interior of your car to be comfortable, how long can it be before you need to run your air conditioner to have your home be cool and comfortable?

Is your home AC unit ready for the summer cooling season? And when exactly does that “summer” cooling season start?

The calendar may say that Summer officially starts in late June, the 21st  at 6:51am EDT, to be exact, but here in The Valley Of The Sun we can see one-hundred degrees Fahrenheit in just the next few days.  The temperature has already touched the low nineties in some parts of the Phoenix Metro Area during March.

Can the first time, this year, you reach for the thermostat and move the selector to Air Conditioning is right around the corner, time wise.

That brings us to the big question.  Will your AC unit run, or run properly when you first need it?  A Tune-up from Aaron’s Mechanical Services will make sure your home is ready and protected from HVAC problems.

We are all guilty of putting things off.  But do you really want to that again this year?  Don’t you want the peace of mind knowing that Air Conditioning is one thing you don’t have to worry about? Sure you do!

Picking up the phone and calling 623-388-4436 is all you have to do. If you have an Apple iPhone you don’t even have to dial the number, you can just tell Siri to do it for you.  Here we go, say “Siri” call “6” “2” “3” “3” “8” “8” “4” “4” “3” “6” … Now that was easy wasn’t it?

If you wait to do a repair it will cost more and you may have to wait in line to have a service tech fix your problem.  You know that there are a bunch of folks out there who won’t call and get a tune-up.  When it comes time to make your home cool and comfortable you can be ready or you can “hope” that you are ready.

Will your AC unit be ready or will you be one of those calling to have your home rescued from the heat?  You are familiar with Murphy’s Law aren’t you? If you aren’t here it is!

If Something Can Go Wrong, It Will!

Cool Arizona Places: Japanese Friendship Garden

Looking for a very local Cool Place for this weekend?  You may want to consider the Japanese Friendship Garden.

If you're looking for a very relaxed and beautiful experience, look no further than the Japanese Friendship Garden. The 3½ acre park is a symbol of friendship between Phoenix and her sister city Himeji in Japan, and took 50 architects from Japan more than 60 trips to Phoenix to build since 1987.

Here, you won't find Sakura, the popular Japanese cherry blossom trees, but you will spot purple leaf plums, Japanese maples, and evergreen pears that provide plenty of shady spots to take a Zen
moment. This relaxing park is considered to be a traditional Japanese, strolling garden.

Come tour the peace and beauty of Ro Ho En! With serene landscape views at every turn of the path, your stroll along the wide walkway is a pleasant, rewarding experience.

Self-Guided Tours

To enhance our experience, a self-guide map is available in the gift shop which will explain some of the landscape views and features unique to Japanese garden design. The map is free for visitors. Please recycle the map at the end of your visit if you do not wish to take it home as a souvenir.

A map of all the plants in the garden is also available for purchase at the gift shop.

A Japanese garden is a concentration of natural beauty, instilled within the confines of an enclosed space. It is not a "park" in our western sense, but rather where visitors may quietly reflect and seek harmony with the natural world and within themselves, a tradition that is centuries old. The Garden Etiquette outlines ways you can honor and respect the traditions of the Japanese Garden.

Please stay on the path at all times.
Please do not climb trees, rocks or enter waterfall areas.
To maintain the quiet and serenity of the garden, please refrain from using loud voices and shouting. Running is prohibited.

Will It Snow Today? Something We Never Ask In Phoenix AZ

Will it snow today? Well, that is something we almost never ask here in Phoenix Arizona.

While it will reach ninety degrees in parts of the Valley of the Sun today,  it is still predicted to snow in seven eastern states today.

For those native Arizonans, who rarely, if ever, see or think about snow, here is how the National Weather Service classifies or defines the term “snow.” Snow is a type of precipitation in the form of crystalline water ice, consisting of a multitude of snowflakes that fall from clouds. Since snow is composed of small ice particles, it is a granular material. It has an open and therefore soft structure, unless packed by external pressure.

Most of us here in the Phoenix Metro area are familiar with the saying, “You Never Have To Shovel Sunshine.” That in and of itself is a great reason to live here.  Of course, like anything in life, there is a trade-off.

Yes, we are running above normal temperatures this spring, but it does get to ninety degrees Fahrenheit in March many times during the Spring season.  And this year is no exception.  Our normal average first 100 degree day is in the middle of May.  But my guess is that it will be much sooner this year.

I have a question for you… Is your Air Conditioner ready?  Your ac unit hasn’t run in months.  The first day you need your AC, is the HVAC going to be ready?

Here at Aaron’s Mechanical Services we can help with that.  We can visit your home and get your Air Conditioner ready for the up-coming Summer season. Having a more efficient cooling system means  more money in your pocket by lowering your electric bill.

Did You Know?

The greatest amount of snow ever recorded at the official reporting station in Phoenix was 1.0 inch on January 20 1933, and on January 21 and 22 1937.  Wow, snow three days in a row here in Phoenix. Who knew?

Other times measurable snow was recorded include:

0.5 inches on February 2 1939, 0.4 inches on December 21 and 22 1990, 0.2 inches on March 12 1917, 0.1 inches on November 28 1919 and then 0.1 inches on December 11 1985.

Trace amounts of snow have been recorded on numerous occasions.

The most recent snow of significance, in areas below 2000 feet, was on December 6 1998. Snow fell over roughly the northwest half of the valley...where some accumulation was reported. Sky Harbor Airport recorded 0.22 inches of precipitation that day...but only a trace of snow.

How High Will Phoenix Reach in March 2014?

If you watched the news and weather this morning you know the mid-west and eastern seaboard are still in the deep freeze while here in the Valley of the Sun we are bumping up against ninety degrees Fahrenheit.

When do you feel we will go from warm to hot this year? A more important question maybe, is your air conditioner ready to keepl you cool and comfortable? Yes, I know, it was working when you shut it off at the end of our last summer’s cooling season.

Do you know that some HVAC companies recommend that once a month an AC unit needs to be run for ten to twenty minutes to keep the unit in good shape.  I don’t know about you but while the temperature in December was in the low fifties I didn’t want to run an air conditioner for twenty minutes.

We would like to remind you that now is a great time to do your spring AC tune-up.  Do it now and that way you know your HVAC unit or air conditioner will really be ready for the coming summer heat-waves.

Did You Know?

An average Phoenix Metro Area summer has 106 days above one-hundred degrees.

I don’t know if you would consider this worse news, but here is the average number of days that will be over 110 degrees here in the Valley of the Sun – 17.

Want to know what year we had the most number of days at or above 110 degrees?  That was 32 days in 2007. Wow, a whole month worth of days at or above 110 degrees Fahrenheit! Don’t blame the National Weather Service for that, they just keep track of the statistics.

In 1974 Phoenix had 18 consecutive days with maximum temperatures of 110 or higher.

Here is one temperature fact that we don’t often think about. The record high for an overnight low is 96.  Ninety-six degrees would be considered a respectably hot summer day in most of the rest of the country.

So enjoy our fantastic spring weather and temperatures, here in the Phoenix Metro area, while you can.

Aaron’s Mechanical Services Wants You To Be Comfy

At Aaron’s Mechanical Services we always want for you to be Comfy.

What does the dictionary say about the meaning of the words “Comfy” and “Comfortable”?

The Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary says that “comfy” is an adjective that is short for physically comfortable. When you look-up the word “comfortable” it means “allowing you to be relaxed and causing no worries, difficulty, or uncertainty”.

When you come home from work that sounds like what I want in my home climate control system… allowing me to be “relaxed and it shouldn’t cause any worries”.

Ice Age or Heat Wave at Aaron’s Mechanical Services we want you to be comfortable in your home. So sit back, relax and breathe easy with heating and air conditioning systems from the Amana brand of HVAC equipment.

Generations of homeowners have trusted the Amana® brand for heating and cooling systems that Lasts and Lasts and Lasts®. The renowned quality, durability, and performance of today’s Amana brand heating and cooling systems continue to provide homeowners and businesses with premium, lasting comfort. Just as they’ve always done. And always will do.

The Amana® brand — An American Tradition
As the innovative manufacturer behind the world’s first walk-in cooler and the Radarange® microwave oven, the Amana brand has long been an American institution. And the same commitment to quality and innovation behind Amana brand home appliances goes into Amana brand heating and air conditioning equipment. In fact, we design, engineer, and manufacture all Amana brand heating and cooling systems with the goal of becoming the standard-bearers for premium performance, long lasting reliability, and a great match for your specific indoor comfort needs.

Benefits
Indoor comfort during warm weather –

Central air conditioning helps keep your home cool.

Cleaner air – As your central air conditioning system draws air out of various rooms in the house through return air ducts, the air is pulled through an air filter, which removes airborne particles such as dust and lint. Sophisticated filters may remove microscopic pollutants, as well. The filtered air is then routed to air supply duct-work that carries it back to rooms.

Quieter operation – Because the compressor-bearing unit is located outside the home, the indoor noise level from its operation is much lower than that of a free-standing air conditioning unit.

Looking for a fast and fair company to work with for your air conditioning system’s tune-ups, repair or replacement needs?  Give Aaron’s Mechanical Services a call and let us help you get comfortable! Call 623-388-4436

Cool Places: Montezuma's Castle National Monument

Montezuma's Castle is one of the best preserved cliff dwellings in North America. This 20 room high-rise apartment, nestled into a towering limestone cliff, tells a story of ingenuity, survival and ultimately, prosperity in an unforgiving desert landscape.

A visit will allow you to marvel at the 1,000 year old legacy of the Sinagua as you explore the ruins at Montezuma Castle National Monument.

The trails at Montezuma Castle National Monument take your through a tranquil glade of Arizona sycamores and provide spectacular views of this majestic ruin.

A paved, 1/3 mile loop trails takes you through a tranquil sycamore glade and past the ancient cliff dwellings of a people surprisingly similar to ourselves.

Montezuma Castle National Monument encompasses 826 acres and lies in the Verde Valley at the junction of the Colorado Plateau and Basin and Range physiographic provinces. Although the climate is arid with less than 12 inches of rainfall annually, several perennial streams thread their way from upland headwaters to the Verde Valley below, creating lush riparian ribbons of green against an otherwise parched landscape of rolling, juniper-covered hills.

On December 8, 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt celebrated the passage of the Antiquities Act by declaring four sites of historic and cultural significance as our nation's first National Monuments. Among these was Montezuma Castle, which the President identified as a place "of the greatest ethnological value and scientific interest." Although very few original artifacts remained in the structure due to intensive looting of the site, Roosevelt's decision assured the continued protection of one of the best preserved prehistoric cliff dwellings in North America.

Early visitors to the monument were allowed access to the structure by climbing a series of ladders up the side of the limestone cliffs. However, due to extensive damage to this valuable cultural landmark, public access of the ruins was discontinued in 1951.

Now, approximately 350,000 people a year gaze through the the windows of the past during a visit to Montezuma Castle. Even 600 years after their departure, the legacy of the Sinagua people continues to inspire the imaginations of this and future generations.

Location: Follow I-17 to exit 289 (90 minutes north of Phoenix, 45 minutes south of Flagstaff).

Aaron’s Mechanical Services Thinks Staying Cool In March

I know that most of the country is still trying to stay “warm” in March.  Yesterday, snow fell in the nation’s capital. Monday March 17th (St. Paddy’s day) and 6 inches of snow on much of the east coast.

Here in the Valley of the Sun we are living up to our “warm” reputation with the National Weather Service saying we will continue to run about ten degrees warmer than usual.

Just last month we made the following statement. “Of course March could bring us a few colder days.”  Looks like we could not have been further from the truth.  We are having a warmer than usual March here in the Phoenix Metro area.

Our focus turns from staying warm to wondering just how hot this summer will get.  Is your air conditioner ready for the heat? A tune-up from Aaron’s Mechanical Services will keep you cool and save you money.  What more could you ask?

While most of the country thinks of Spring as The last of March thru the first of June we tend to think of Spring in Phoenix as February thru the first week of May. Which time table do you and your family prefer?

Spring Facts; Did You Know?

If you stand at the equator on the first day of spring, you will see the sun pass directly overhead. This is only true two times a year; the first day of spring and the first day of Autumn.

Baby birds learn to sing. Baby birds are born with the ability to sing, but they must learn the specific songs of their species. They are thought to acquire these songs between 10 to 60 days of age and begin to sing them the next spring when they have matured at about 300 days old.

Spring cleaning often accompanies spring fever. And with the warmer weather windows and doors can be open which allows ventilation for dusting and the fumes of cleaning products. It has been suggested that spring cleaning dates back to the Persian New Year where they practice "Khoneh Tekouni" which means "Shaking the house". Another possibility of the origin can be traced to the ancient Jewish of cleansing the home in anticipation of passover.

Emeralds represent spring, rebirth, hope, peace, and tranquility.

No matter if your home or business needs help with cooling or heating Aaron’s Mechanical Services stands ready to help.

Aaron’s Mechanical Services wants you to stay comfortable all year round.  If your air conditioning system or HVAC unit needs service or replacement please think of us and call at 623-388-4436 and we will come to you and solve your Heating Unit service needs.

We Celebrate Green Everyday, Not Just St. Paddy’s Day

Well, first let me take a moment to say Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all of our Irish friends. And isn’t everybody just a little bit Irish when it comes to St. Paddy’s day? All over the country people are marching in parades (or have already done that this past weekend), dying the river green and visiting their local pub to lift a pint (or two) of Guinness Stout. When you got dressed today did you take time to pick something green or add a pin or Shamrock to your collar?

With our rain from a few weeks ago and our delightfully warm weather the Valley of the Sun is very green right now. If you have seen the National Weather Service forecast for the next few days we may very well call it warm with temperatures running from the mid-eighties (86 today March 17th, 2014) and for most of the coming week.

You do know that mid-eighties is a very warm summer day in the most of the rest of the country? From what I read this morning the Denver area will be ten degrees above normal today at just sixty-six degrees.  That temperature will feel very warn to them and we are twenty degrees above them and that twenty degree spread is very normal for us during the summer as well.

I need to get back to the celebration of the green today.  Only when we think about that we are usually talking about the kind of green we spend and the kind of green when it comes to talking about being kind to the environment.

When you get a spring tune-up on your air conditioner you will save some green (the spending kind) over the summer cooling season.

A new ac unit from Goodman with a higher S.E.E.R. rating will also help you save some green and they are also better (greener) for the environment at the same time. So as you lift your green beer today take a moment and think about this coming cooling season and how you can save in the most important kind of green.

Every time you replace any home appliance these days you have a chance to save some green by comparing the amount of energy they use. That bright yellow label (called EnergyGuide Labeling) tells you what to expect as far as the amount of electricity they use.

When buying a new appliance try to find one that has earned an ENERGY STAR label.  This means that the unit has earned the symbol for energy efficiency helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy-efficient products and practices.

Like we say we are all about saving the green!

Cool Arizona Places: Homolovi State Park

During Spring in Arizona it is a wonderful time to go exploring and visit the many beautiful areas of our state. Here is a state park that can be a weekend adventure and educational experience.

In the high grassland of 14th century northern Arizona, an ancient people found a home along the Little Colorado River. These people, the Hisat'sinom (known to archaeologists as the Anasazi), paused in their migrations to till the rich flood plain and sandy slopes before continuing north to join people already living on the mesas, people who are today known as the Hopi.

The Hopi people of today still consider Homolovi, as well as other pre-columbian sites in the southwest, to be part of their homeland. They continue to make pilgrimages to these sites, renewing the ties of the people with the land. The Hopi tell us that the broken pottery and stones are now part of the land and are the trail the Bahana will follow when he returns. Therefore, these are mute reminders that the Hopi continue to follow the true Hopi way and the instructions of Masau'u.

The years have brought many changes to Homolovi. The migrations ended when the people settled at the center of the world, the Hopi Mesas north of Homolovi. However, as new people appeared, such as the Diné (Navajo) and later the Europeans, the Hopi watched as their homeland was occupied by the new people.

In an effort to protect some of these sites, the Hopi people supported the idea of Homolovi State Park. This idea resulted in the establishment of the park in 1986 and the opening of the park in 1993.

Homolovi State Park now serves as a center of research for the late migration period of the Hopi from the 1200s to the late 1300s. While archaeologists study the sites and confer with the Hopi to unravel the history of Homolovi, Arizona State Parks provides the opportunity for visitors to visit the sites and use park facilities including a visitor center and museum, various trails and a campground. Several covered picnic tables are located throughout the park. Pullouts provide the opportunity to observe wildlife in this park of over 4,000 acres at an elevation of 4,900 feet.

“Homolovi” is Hopi for “Place of the Little Hills” — the traditional name for Winslow, Arizona.

Although the park protects Hopi lands and cultural artifacts, the park also contains a small cemetery from a group of 19th century settlers who founded the city of Sunset. Sunset Cemetery stands as a mute testimony to the undaunted spirit of the brave pioneers who forged a living from this once desolate and forbidding land.

Are There New Cooling Technologies Under Development?

There are many new ideas being tried to help you keep cool during the summer season.  Many may never make it out of the lab and into real world applications.  But it is always a good idea to learn about many different new ideas that are being explored. With that in mind here is a review of a new technology that is being looked at.

Electrical engineers at Stanford University published an article describing their cooling invention in last month's NanoLetters. What they discovered is a metal-dielectric photonic structure that radiates sunlight keeping what's inside cool.

What are the implications of their invention? Buildings and homes that can be kept cool without air conditioning. Automobiles that no longer turn into ovens in the heat of a summer day.

So what is a metal-dielectric photonic structure? It is material that does two things:

• acts like a mirror to solar light reflecting the Sun's energy,

• emits what it reflects within a specific range of wavelength to not contribute to the greenhouse effect.

How can it do this, that is, reflect the heat of the Sun away from a building without heating the atmosphere around the building? The scientists created a thermal emitter and solar reflector in one using nanophotonic materials. The material both suppresses the heat from sunlight but also radiates it efficiently so that it doesn't hang round but escapes right out of the Earth's atmosphere.

The net cooling exceeds 100 watts per square meter, about the same amount of power as current solar panels generate at 10% efficiency.

A single-family home clad in this new material could easily reduce its air conditioning needs by 35% or more, even on the hottest summer days, and do this without drawing on any power source.

Such a passive cooling technology would serve well in much of the developing world where power infrastructure to drive air conditioning is non-existent or heavily reliant on the burning of fossil fuels. And for areas off the grid, a technology like this presents an ideal solution for keeping vehicles, buildings and homes cool during hot summers.

Don’t expect to use this in the next few years as it is still in very early development and very costly at this time.

When Can We Expect The First 100 Degree Day?

Do you think that it is way too early for that question? Maybe, but do you know that there is a good chance that it will be ninety degrees Fahrenheit or above by this coming Sunday March 16th?

The National Weather Service records indicated that the average first one hundred degree day is usually May 13th. The way 2014 has treated so far I can only guess that we will see our first one hundred degree day well before our average of the past decade.

Did You Know?

Earliest 100 degree day is; March 26, 1988

Latest one hundred degree day is; June 18, 1913 (we can only hope)

Does that mean that this year will be more like our 1988 year and we will see one hundred degrees Fahrenheit by the end of March in 2014?

If Spring turns out to be a very hot variation is your air conditioner ready for that?  Is it about time to call and do a tune-up now and be ready or do you want to be way too hot by late March?

Will this summer be longer and hotter than normal?

Did You Know?

When do we see the last occurrence of a 100 degree daytime high or even higher in the Valley of the Sun? Here are the average records form the National Weather Service.

Earliest - September 2, 1904. While this sounds great to me, please note that this record is one hundred and ten (that is 110) years old.  I don’t see that being broken anytime soon and of course the Phoenix Metro area has grown by a factor of more than 120 times since then.  We have torn-up and paved over many, many acres of farm land since then.  Asphalt and concrete hold in heat, where plants and crops used to cool us off a bit.

Back then air conditioning way a pan of ice with a fan blowing air toward you.  Thankfully we have moved way beyond that for both personal and whole house cooling.

Latest - October 23, 2003.

Average - September 28th.

Will This Summer Break Records in Phoenix AZ

While the East and South are freezing here in the Phoenix Metro Area we continue to be above average by ten degrees Fahrenheit or so. While that means we are seeing midafternoon highs in the low to mid-eighties, what does that mean for this coming summer?

The National Weather Service claims that a very warm spring doesn’t mean anything in relation to our coming summer temperatures.  For one, I would sure hate to see a summer that had many days that were ten degrees above normal.  We will have to wait and see if this summer is the one that breaks our record high of one hundred-twenty-two degrees that happened on June 26th in the summer of 1991.

I know that seems as hot as it could get, but, we have to remember that it is twelve degrees below the record high in the continental United States. The all-time high nationwide is 134 degrees, set on July 10, 1913 in Death Valley, California.

I would hate to think about temperatures in the Valley of the Sun pushing above the record this summer, but, it could happen.  Is your AC going to be ready for that type of summer? A spring time tune-up could go a long way toward protecting your family from the heat this coming 2014 summer. When was the last time you had you had your air conditioner professionally serviced?

Did You Know?

Weather temperatures have been officially kept in Phoenix, Arizona since 1895.

Only three times in its history since 1895 has Phoenix experienced temperatures at or above 120 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition to the record 122 degree day, it was also 121 degrees on July 28, 1995, and 120 degrees on Jun 25, 1990.

The all-time record hottest temperature ever recorded in the state of Arizona is 128 degrees Fahrenheit, which occurred on June 29th, 1994, in the city of Lake Havasu. Lake Havasu is located in west-central Arizona, about a 200 mile drive west of Phoenix. Lake Havasu is located along the border with California and is known as the transplanted home of the London Bridge.

If the U.S. used the Celsius system of temperature measurement, our record high in Phoenix would be just fifty (50) degrees, wow that sounds cooler to me!

On February 16th, 2014 Phoenix broke the record high for the day with a temperature of 86 degrees Fahrenheit.  That would make a very warm summer day in Minnesota.

So rather than worrying about saving our springtime plants we are sipping Iced Tea on the patio.

Cool Places: Visit Arizona Military Landmarks

Arizona's military story begins with the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadors in the 1500s. These settlers established missions and garrisons or presidios to protect mission villages in Arizona, California and New Mexico. Over the centuries, Indians repeatedly tried to protect their homelands by resisting these Spaniards, and later, the Mexicans and Americans as well.

The American presence, which began during the U.S. Mexican War, led to numerous conflicts known today as the Indian Wars. During this time, on April 15, 1862, a small Civil War skirmish took place in Arizona at Picacho Peak. It became the site of the westernmost battle of that war and is annually commemorated with a re-enactment.

One of the most famous Indian War campaigns took place in 1864, when Kit Carson led the U.S. military effort that forced the Navajos to move to a remote area of Canyon de Chelly. The Apache Wars were the longest and bloodiest, and ended only when Geronimo surrendered in 1886, assured that he and his men would be imprisoned for only two years and then allowed to return to their homeland. Instead, all of them, including women and children, were made prisoners of war for 27 years.

Today, Arizona is home to two major air force bases, Luke Air Force Base and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, as well as Fort Huachuca, a U.S. Army base. In addition to its military bases, Arizona was the site of 18 Titan Missile installations. All of the national Titan Missile sites have been destroyed except one near Tucson, which can be toured.

Titan Missile Museum
The Titan Missile Museum is the only Titan Missile site that remains intact. The guided tour includes the launch control room with a simulated launch and then continues down the 200 ft. tunnel for a close up look at the Titan II missile. Daily from 9am to 5pm.

What Are Your Plans To Save On Utility Bills This Summer?

We all complain when it is time to pay summer utility bills here in the Phoenix Metro Area.  On the flipside… We all love our mild fall days and nights.  We brag to everyone who will listen about our fantastic winter weather. Our spring time barbeques are legendary here in the Valley of the Sun.

Folks from all over visit or spend full time here during the winter and early spring.  They send photos home of swimming (comfortably) in March while their family and friends are still shoveling snow back home.

But many of those folks snicker at us when it comes time for high heels to sink into the asphalt.  Yes, it gets very hot (sorry Chamber of Commerce for use of the “Hot” word) for sixty to one-hundred plus days during the summer.

We all dread the utility bills during the summer.

But… What Are Your Plans To Save On Utility Bills This Summer? You are planning to do something positive to lower your utility bills, aren’t you?

You can do something positive about those pesky utility bills.  Are you looking for some examples? We aren’t talking about just raising the thermostat to a higher setting and suffering from the heat. That never seems like a great idea to us. We know you want your home to be a comfortable place to get into and out of the Arizona summer heat.

Have you installed a new energy saving smart thermostat yet? Have you upgraded your attic insulation?  Have you added an efficient ridge vent or powered attic fans? Have you installed heat blocking energy efficient windows?  Have you planted shade trees under the SRP and APS tree programs? Have you had an energy audit from you utility company?  That could pin point where and what needs to be repaired (replaced) to help save money on energy bills.  It may seem strange but your utility company really wants to help you spend less on electricity.  As the Valley of the Sun grows they need to spend huge amounts of money to buy more electricity or build even bigger power plants.

Have you had or plan to have your Air Conditioner tuned-up BEFORE this coming summer heating season?

Have you considered or do you plan to consider replacing your current AC or HVAC unit with a newer and far more efficient air conditioner system? This will result in a lower utility bill now and for many years to come.

A new AC unit with a high S.E.E.R. rating sure sounds like a plan to us.
