Cool Arizona Places: Fresh Arizona Turkeys

Many people feel that eating local and fresh is much better for you than food that is frozen many months ago and shipped across the country. Perhaps the best example of this is fresh Thanksgiving Turkeys.

Did you know that not only can you buy fresh not frozen turkeys, you can buy turkeys raised right here in Arizona. Please note that this information is a bit late and all the turkeys are probably already gone. But, there is always next year.

In Dewey, on the only farm in Arizona licensed for commercial turkey sales, about 14,000 fresh birds are raised and processed for Thanksgiving, and another 6,000 for Christmas.

There’s also another source, but it takes more effort: You can hunt your own turkey in the wild, one per person each year. Each type has its merits.

Young’s Farm 17 miles east of Prescott, said the farm is the only place in the state to get fresh turkeys like these. The farm sells the birds at grocery stores statewide, at the farm store and over the Internet.

Starting in late June, Young’s gets day-old poults or chicks bred at a California hatchery and raises the turkeys in a large barn, “with lots of room to move around and exercise. Unlike many commercial turkey operations, the birds are not kept caged or tightly packed into pens, a procedure used to hasten fattening.

“What we have come to learn over the years of raising turkeys is that the less stress you put on the bird, the better it will taste,” Teskey said. “And therefore, having room to roam around, to eat and drink when it wants, not giving injections, it all reduces stress.”

Young’s turkeys eat a milo-corn-soy grain mix but receive no growth hormones or stimulants, she said.

Federal agencies allow antibiotics to be given to poultry to prevent disease and increase food efficiency, but residues must not be found at the time of slaughter.

The supply is less predictable in the wild. Ron Engel-Wilson, a bird specialist with the Arizona Game and Fish Department, said there are some 14,000 to 20,000 Merriam’s turkeys roaming in the state, primarily in northern Arizona’s ponderosa pine forests. The actual number depends on the time of year and other factors, he said.

Merriam’s turkeys are native to Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado but also are found in California, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Washington, Oregon, Nebraska and the Dakotas.

This year, 4,635 permits were sold to hunt Merriam’s turkeys during Arizona’s weeklong fall season in October. The number harvested hasn’t been tallied, but 806 birds were bagged last fall.

“This year’s fall harvest should be higher,” Engel-Wilson said. So what’s the advantage there?

Well, there’s the chance to enjoy the outdoors, for one. People watching what they eat can also enjoy the fact that wild turkeys are leaner than captive-bred Butterball or Jennie-O’s found in grocery freezers.

“Once the turkey is skinned, there is very little difference between the wild turkeys,” Engel-Wilson said. “Birds of comparable age are probably similar in toughness.”

You can contact Young’s Farm through their website: www.youngsfarminc.com/young/turkeys.htm

What Does Your Heating System and Thanksgiving Have In Common?

Here in the Phoenix Metro Area November brings on the start of the Holidays and we celebrate Thanksgiving. It also starts our heating season here in the Valley of the Sun.

Of course you need to plan your Thanksgiving feast to include what to serve and who you will serve it to. We all look to invite family and friends to enjoy the holiday meal.  It seems at Thanksgiving we all know some folks that would like to be invited because otherwise they will be eating at a local fast food place.

We want all of our visitors to be comfortable.  That means you need your HVAC to be ready for Arizona weather.  That means Heating and Cooling perhaps even in the same day. Yes, this November 27th you could need heating in the morning and cooling in the afternoon as our Phoenix Metro area temperatures may reach eight-five degrees Fahrenheit during the peak of the afternoon solar gain.

Not many places in the United States can say that they have a day where both heating and cooling are needed in the twenty-four hour period. Here in the Valley of the Sun we can actually use both heating and cooling in the same day. It doesn’t happen very often, but it does happen. An efficient Heat Pump is one of the few units that can do that without some sort of changes to the ventilation and ducting system.

A heat pump, rather than creating heat, simply moves heat. It may move thermal energy from cooler outdoor air into the warmer inside, or from the cooler refrigerator interior into the ambient air. It pushes heat in a direction counter to its normal flow (cold to hot, rather then hot to cold). Thus we use the word pump.

A typical thermostat does require you to manually change them from cool to heat even with a heat pump.

There are now water heaters that use heat pump technology to heat or partially heat your domestic hot water. So it looks like you can count on heat pump technology to be used in more domestic services as time goes on.  Heat pumps are even being used in conjunction with the water from swimming pools.

Combining passive solar panels to help heat both domestic hot water and your backyard swimming pool can save on your energy costs as well. Yes, that sort of makes sunshine as part of your home’s heat pump.

Looking for fast and fair HVAC service or do you need a heating system replacement? Aaron’s Mechanical Services wants you to stay comfortable all year round.  Most important we want you to spend the least amount of money possible while you stay comfortable. If your heating system or HVAC unit needs service or replacement please think of us and call at 623-388-4436 and we will come to you and solve your cooling / heating unit’s service needs.

Cold and Wet For Most of U.S. and Heat Is On In Phoenix. Is Yours?

With the Phoenix Metro Area’s overnight lows in the high thirties and low forties most of us in the Valley of the Sun are just too cold at that temperature to go without our heating systems running. How is yours doing?

Is your house comfortable?  How often is your HVAC or furnace running to keep you warm and toasty?

The National Weather Service is predicting that much of the Midwest and Eastern seaboard will be both cold and wet this week. The travel forecast doesn’t look great for this big travel week.  So be sure to check with the airports and carriers to make sure your flights still will get you there.  You may even need to check and make sure travel to and from the airport is still a possibility.

Travel trouble is brewing for Thanksgiving. In something of a replay of last week's spring-to-winter cold plunge, traffic-snarling snow and ice are in the forecast from New England to Georgia for Wednesday — the busiest day of the holiday week on the roads, on the rails and in the skies.

This weather may cause a condition called Black Ice.  Black ice, sometimes called clear ice, refers to a thin coating of glazed ice on a surface. While not truly black, it is virtually transparent, allowing black asphalt roadways or the surface below to be seen through it, hence the term "black ice". The typically low levels of noticeable ice pellets, snow, or sleet surrounding black ice means that areas of the ice are often practically invisible to drivers or persons stepping on it.

There is, thus, a risk of skidding and subsequent accident due to the loss of traction. A similar problem is encountered with diesel fuel spills on roads. Be careful when driving in those kinds of conditions.

Here in the Phoenix Metro Area we just don’t have to worry about that kind of weather problems.  We just need to make sure that our furnace can take the chill off most nights and mornings. A few cold days may even need a bit of heat.

If your furnace needs a tune-up we look forward to being able to help you out with that. That can make sure you will have your heat when you need it. Perhaps most important is that your heating system isn’t wasting your money.  After all APS and SRP doesn’t need to collect any extra of your money.

Looking for fast and fair HVAC service or do you need a heating system replacement? Aaron’s Mechanical Services wants you to stay comfortable all year round.  Most important we want you to spend the least amount of money possible while you stay comfortable. If your air conditioning system or HVAC unit needs service or replacement please think of us and call at 623-388-4436 and we will come to you and solve your cooling / heating unit’s service needs.

Our Friends and Family Back East Are Really Catching It

At least if they live in and around Buffalo NY they are.  Reports are there is so much snow on some roofs the house or business could be in danger of roof failure or even building collapse.

The worse news is that even more snow will arrive in the next twenty-four hours. So much for the predicted mild winter this year.

If we look at the Valley of the Sun we are having a bit colder than normal run of temperatures over the last few days.  Is your furnace or heating system keeping your home comfortable?  Have you been using space heaters to keep certain rooms warm?

By mid-afternoon the Phoenix Metro area has enough solar heat gain that we sure are warm enough,  If your home’s insulation is up to modern code that will keep you warm enough till just about bedtime. But after that are you running your furnace until late into the next morning?

Is your HVAC system or heat pump running efficiently or is it wasting energy and your money? None of us like APS or SRP enough to give them extra dollars with every electric bill that we pay. Right? I didn’t think so.

Did You Know?

In some places people look for part time work just to help pay for their winter heating bills.

A new more efficient heating system can result in as much as a 30% reduction in winter utility bills.

Take steps to stay safe from carbon monoxide, electrical hazards, food and water safety concerns, and other hazards you might face if you had to leave your home during a severe winter storm.

Shoveling snow can be a real health risk for many people, even those with no previous known risk factors.

Don’t forget your pets - bring them indoors. If they can’t come inside, make sure they have enough shelter to keep them warm and that they can get to unfrozen water.

A heating system tune-up can stop the waste of energy and money.  Have you had your tune-up this year?

Cool Arizona Places: Out of Africa Wildlife Park

Just outside of Camp Verde is the Out of Africa Wildlife Park it features many local and worldwide animals. Sort of a lions, tigers and bears oh my and many more.

Here is a story of just one of their animals.  To see more and get further information click on the website link at the bottom of this post.

Sycamore the Grizzly Bear

Sycamore’s arrival brought tears of joy to park staff and visitors alike. After all, how many of us have actually seen a thirty-one pound baby grizzly? Along with his off-the-chart mega-cuteness factor, we quickly discovered that Sycamore’s energy is endless, and that means playtime is ALL the time. Sycamore was born in a zoo in Ohio. Now that he lives at his permanent home at Out of Africa Wildlife Park, he will slowly begin to match the size and weight of his 800-pound father.

Sycamore’s parents are from a captive line of former circus bears. Sycamore was not needed as a circus bear, so he was offered to Out of Africa. We had been looking for a young male grizzly for about two years, ever since Cypress, a female grizzly, had lost her sister Aspen. Both Cypress and Aspen were rescued several years earlier, but Aspen passed away due to a fungal disease known as Valley Fever, leaving Cypress without companionship.

When Sycamore joined us, our first objective was to make him comfortable as he acclimated to his new habitat. His temporary home is located next to two rescued black bears named Parker and Sierra, brought to us by the Department of Arizona Game and Fish.

The permanent plan will be to introduce Sycamore and Cypress to each other in 2015, once Cypress has woken up from her semi-hibernation. Sycamore has grown to a more substantial size since he first arrived, and this will bode well for him as he learns to handle the “bearish” tendencies of larger Cypress. Meanwhile, we hope Sycamore will be accepted by the two black bears Parker and Sierra. So far, all is well. And Sycamore’s playful antics, never-ending energy, and adorable nature are still very much the norm.

Habitat:
The grizzly bear is known by many names: the silvertip bear, the grizzly, or the North American brown bear. It is a subspecies of the brown bear that generally lives in the uplands of Western North America. The species is found in Alaska, south through much of Western Canada, and into portions of the Northwestern United States including Idaho, Montana, Washington, and Wyoming, extending as far south as Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, but is most commonly found in Canada.

Behavior:
These giants tend to be solitary animals, with the exception of females and their cubs, but at times they do congregate. Dramatic gatherings of grizzly bears can be seen at prime Alaskan fishing spots when the salmon run upstream for summer spawning. In this season, dozens of bears may gather to feast on the fish, craving fats that will sustain them through the long winter ahead. Despite their impressive size, grizzlies are quite fast and have been clocked at 30 miles an hour. They can be dangerous to humans, particularly if surprised or if humans come between a mother and her cubs.

Is Your Heating System Keeping You Warm and Toasty?

Can you believe that the Weather Channel was reporting that the Glendale 85306 sensors were reading thirty-eight degrees Fahrenheit this morning (November 18th 2014) at 6:00 AM?

If you think that was bad we can report that I-90 near Buffalo NY was closed when more than three feet of snow accumulated.

Does the City of Phoenix even own a snowplow? Salt-trucks? Snow-blowers? Not likely.

The Valley of the Sun – where you never have to shovel sunshine.

You are unlikely to throw your back out by shoveling Sunshine.

But it’s a dry cold!

Did You Know?

Lake-effect snow is produced during cooler atmospheric conditions when cold winds move across long expanses of warmer lake water, providing energy and picking up water vapor, which freezes and is deposited on the leeward shores. The same effect also occurs over bodies of salt water, when it is termed ocean-effect or bay-effect snow. The effect is enhanced when the moving air mass is uplifted by the orographic influence of higher elevations on the downwind shores. This uplifting can produce narrow but very intense bands of precipitation, which deposit at a rate of many inches of snow each hour, often resulting in copious snowfall totals.

The areas affected by lake-effect snow are called snowbelts. This effect occurs in many locations throughout the world but is best known in the populated areas of the Great Lakes of North America, and especially Central New York, Western New York, Northwestern Pennsylvania, Northeastern Ohio, southwestern Ontario and central Ontario, Northeastern Illinois (along the shoreline of Lake Michigan), northwestern and north central Indiana (mostly between Gary, IN and Elkhart, IN), and western Michigan. Tug Hill in New York's North Country region has the most snow amounts of any non-mountainous location within the continental U.S., followed by the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which can average over 200 inches of snow per year.

A lake-effect blizzard is the blizzard-like conditions resulting from lake-effect snow. Under certain conditions, strong winds can accompany lake-effect snows creating blizzard-like conditions; however the duration of the event is often slightly less than that required for a blizzard warning in both the US and Canada.

How Is Your Heating System Doing

At forty-six degrees Fahrenheit this morning I’ll bet you used your heating system.  Some of you it may have been the first time this fall. How well did it work?  Did it smell funny? Do you see a film of dust on your furniture? Or the worst news would be that it did run at all.

Who are you going to call to get your furnace or HVAC system to run or run better? May we suggest that you call us. Please consider calling Aaron’s Mechanical Services at 623-388-4436. We will get your system running and your home warm and toasty in no time at all.

If you think the Phoenix Metro area was cold this morning here are a few temperatures from around the country.

Chicago IL 14° (with Wind Chill 5°)
Billings MT 12° (with Wind Chill -2°)
Denver CO 15° (with Wind Chill 0°)
New York NY 31° (with light rain)

The coldest weather of the season so far will extend from the Dakotas to Texas and the Interstate-95 corridor by the end of the week. The outbreak of arctic air will be long-lasting and may linger well past the middle of the month. The worst of the cold will be felt from Fargo, North Dakota, and Minneapolis to Chicago and St. Louis. Heating demands will jump and people will be reaching for winter coats before venturing outdoors.

I guess the better news is that we may see the Valley of the Sun touch seventy degrees this afternoon. Most of the folks in the rest of the country would love to see us be able to ship some warm their way.

Make sure you take a moment and give us a call and find out what our tune-up special can do for your heating system.

Now is the time to use all the solar heat gain that you have been blocking all summer long.  You need to cover the windows on the north side of your home and let the sunshine in from your windows on the south side.

Remember to share photos of your afternoon barbeques (in a short sleeve shirt) with your friends and relatives in our colder climes.  It will help keep them warm while they are shoveling snow.  You know they will call during July and August and ask if you are stuck in the melting asphalt.

Are You Hosting Thanksgiving?

With the first of the holidays almost upon us we are all getting ready for Thanksgiving in one way or the other.  We are either planning on going to someone’s home or we are getting our home ready for company. Just two weeks from today we will be passing the potatoes and carving the turkey.

Is your furnace, HVAC or heating system ready for the holiday festivities? While the oven will be going and providing some heat you may need to have your heating system tested and tuned-up so it can do its part as well.

A quick call to Aaron’s Mechanical Service at 623-388-4436 can get us on our way to make sure your home is ready for the holiday and the heating season.  Here in Arizona, especially the Phoenix Metro area it is not part of any real cold winters.  But, with our body tempered for highs well north of one-hundred-fifteen degrees Fahrenheit we need heating help when our daytime highs drop into the sixty or low seventy degree range.  Later in the year we can have nights that can drop to near freezing.

According to the National Weather Service we will see temperatures in some parts of the Valley of the Sun with nighttime lows around twenty degrees above freezing.  In the forties and fifties is cold enough for me.

Don’t wait to find out if your furnace or heating system is up to the task and then leaves you out in the cold so to speak.

Did You Know?

The turkey is a large bird in the genus Meleagris, which is native to the Americas. One species, Meleagris gallopavo, is native to the forests of North America, mainly Mexico and the United States.

The turkey is one of the most famous birds in North America.  In fact, Benjamin Franklin wanted to make the wild turkey, not the Bald Eagle, the national bird of the United States!

The turkey's popularity comes from the American people's love of eating the bird for special occasions like Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Over 700 million pounds of turkey are consumed yearly in the United States.

Turkey hens are usually sold as whole birds. Toms are processed into turkey sausage, turkey franks, tenderloins, cutlets and deli meats.

The heaviest turkey ever raised was 86 pounds, about the size of a large dog.

A 15 pound turkey usually has about 70 percent white meat and 30 percent dark meat.

At Aaron’s Mechanical Service we want you to stay warm dry and comfortable all year round.  If your HVAC unit or heating system needs service or replacement please think of us and call at 623-388-4436 and we will come to you and solve your air conditioning service needs.

Aaron’s Mechanical Services Cool AZ Places: Lee's Ferry

Roughly 42 miles from the town of Page, Arizona, Lee's Ferry is an historic site on the Colorado River that once offered ferry service over this calm stretch of the mighty river. Today, many travelers begin their Marble Canyon and Grand Canyon river journeys at Lee's Ferry which specializes in tours from commercial rafting businesses that provide trips that last as long as a half day or as much as a few weeks. Lee's Ferry is the premier site to launch a raft trip down the Colorado River into the canyons beyond.

With a past straight out of Old Western legends, comes the true story of the site's founder, John D. Lee who established his ferry service in 1871 at the request of the Mormon Church. The calm waters of the site and beds of shale deposits allowed for safe passage across the river through the nearly impassible canyon terrain. Because Lee moved around considerably, the ferry was essentially run by his wife Emma, one of his seventeen wives.

The law caught up with Lee in 1877, however, when he was executed by law enforcement officials for his actions in the Mountains Meadows Massacre of 1857. A few years later, Emma Lee sold the ferry service to the Mormon Church, which had provided the seed money for its beginnings under John Lee. The ferry continued to provide service until the 1920s when it was replaced by the Navajo Bridge. The site still bears its founder's name today.

Many visitors have called the Colorado waters near Lee's Ferry the best trout fishing site in all of the southwest. Guided fishing trips are available at Lee's Ferry and fishermen rave about their catches amidst the gorgeous backdrop of the rock formations. Be sure to pick up your Arizona fishing license; they are conveniently sold at the Marble Canyon Lodge.

Rafting trips from Lee's Ferry can be found to suit all skill levels and the guides for the trips really know their stuff. Short trips and extended trips set out from Lee's Ferry and the journeys are filled with breathtaking scenery and a myriad of information from the guides who seem to have a story for every bend of the river. The longer trips allow travelers to hike as well for an added dimension to their experience.

Travelers will find a ranger's station at Lee's Ferry along with a camp ground, launch ramp, a courtesy dock, and even a fish-cleaning facility for added convenience. The town of Marble Canyon, about three miles away, features a restaurant and filling station.

Lees Ferry is 42 miles from Page via Hwy 89 south and Hwy 89A west. It is 85 miles from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon via Hwy 89A and Hwy 67. The Lees Ferry Junction and Park Entrance is just west of Navajo Bridge Interpretive Center. A paved road leads 5 miles to the Ferry area. Services available at Lees Ferry include a National Park Service campground, ranger station, dump station and public launch ramp. There is a gas station, store, post office, motel and restaurant at Marble Canyon, next to the park entrance. More services are found west on Hwy 89A.

What Day Will You Need Your Furnace?

The national news is full of reports that a major storm is streaming into the northern states and flights are being cancelled right and left.

So what is the high expected in the Phoenix Metro Area today, November 10th? The National; Weather Service is predicting eighty-five degrees Fahrenheit for this afternoon.  They are also saying that the temperature will reach a high of just twenty degrees in Rapid City South Dakota. Wow sixty-five degrees colder. Brrrrr

Back to the title question… What Day Will You Need Your Furnace? This coming Sunday, November 16th the early morning hours will see a low of just forty-seven degrees.

Being all wrapped up and snug in your bed forty-seven doesn’t seem so cold.  But thinking about the tile on my bathroom floor and getting into the shower and I know I want my furnace running and keeping me warm.

Thursday November 7th And Phoenix Will See 86 Degrees – Still Need AC

OK, the Seventh November 2014 and the Phoenix Metro Area will see Eighty-six degrees Fahrenheit, and don’t forget that is in the shade. Yes, in full sun it feels even hotter. If you think Thursday is hot Saturday may bring a trip back into the nineties again.

Of course that is why your house heats up during the afternoon sun. Yes, that is why the Valley of the Sun is still running their Air Conditioners, while many parts of the rest of the United States are already running their furnaces and shoveling snow.

A friend sent a Facebook photo of Interstate travel back east and it was closed due to a heavy snow storm.

I guess the real good news is that we never have to shovel sunshine here in the greater Phoenix Metro Area. Yes, I know every once in a great while we do get a dusting of snow here on the desert floor and it lasts about an hour at the most. Normally our snow is flakes you can see in the air or touching the windshield, but then it melts instantly as the surfaces are well above freezing temperatures.

The National Weather Service forecasts that for the next eight days we are running mid to high eighties it not low nineties here in the Valley of the Sun. So unless you want very uncomfortable afternoons you will still need your AC running.

I know starting the day in a sweater and then needing AC on in the afternoon may seem a bit strange, but that is just fall weather in the Arizona deserts.

The rest of the country makes fun of us for wearing sweaters and jackets while they may be in short sleeves yet. Our revenge is coming when we are out barbecuing and they are trying to find out which mound of snow is their car.

If the choice is feeling cold at fifty degrees or shoveling snow and scraping away the ice, you can guess which one I am voting for. Oh, wait the elections are over so I don’t need to do any voting jokes for two more years.

At Aaron’s Mechanical Services we are all about keeping you and your family comfortable, no matter what the outside temperature is. If it is hot outside we will kept your home cool and when it is cold outside we will kept your home and family warm and toasty.

Cool Arizona Places: The Leaves Are Turning

If you would rather not spend this second weekend in November in the Phoenix Metro Area, with our temperatures reaching nearly ninety degrees Fahrenheit, I would say go north.  Yes, go to the cooler climes of the northern part of Arizona rather than sticking around the Valley of the Sun.

The leaves are changing all over the northern areas. The trees are (or have) reaching the peak of the reds, golds and rust colors.

Consider a short road trip to Flagstaff this weekend. Often hailed as Arizona’s capital of autumn, Flagstaff is a leaf peeper’s paradise. To experience the season at its most exhilarating visitors flock to the trails around 8,000 feet elevation; where large stands of aspen trees steal the show with their quaking leaves glowing like liquid sunshine.

As the fall months begin to emerge, the warming autumn colors will descend from the San Francisco Peaks to the streets of Flagstaff. Considering the vague perception of when the foliage will reach its peak, the Flagstaff Leafometer is a great resource for those hoping to observe the transitioning colors. This online resource enables visitors to grasp an idea of what stage of color alteration to expect leaves in when traveling to varying areas of the city. Flagstaff offers many opportunities to explore and witness the alluring golden brown, red and orange autumn colors. Below is a list of places to consider.  http://www.flagstaffarizona.org/leafometer

Aspen Nature Loop
Another salient trail, the Aspen Nature Loop offers views of the San Francisco Peaks and Kendrick Mountain. Located near the base of Arizona Snowbowl, this scenic loop is sure to expose some of the most impeccable fall colors. At a length of 1.8 miles, this hike is rated as relatively easy. Those looking for an effortless way to witness the scenery should consider Aspen Nature Loop.

Bismarck Lake
Situated in an alpine meadow, Bismarck Lake is the perfect location to observe both the altering autumn setting and the wildlife that is attracted by the lake. This remarkable “lake” exhibits pond-like features, acquiring shallow waters enclosed by marshes. As a resource for wildlife in the surrounding forests, visitors should expect to see some wildlife activity. Although rated at moderate difficulty, this trail gives hikers the option of a two mile roundtrip trail or an elongated seven mile roundtrip trail leading to Snowbowl Road.

Marvelous Fall Hikes
Those interested in absorbing the scenery by foot might consider hiking some of Flagstaff’s prominent trails. There are many trails, ranging in difficulty, which will provide stunning views of the changing landscape. Some of these trails include Wilson Meadow, Aspen Nature Loop and Bismarck Lake.

Wilson Meadow
Located in the Heart Prairie, Wilson Meadow is brimming with meadows and aspen groves in an open landscape. The lavish amount of nature, including fields of wildflowers and grasslands, ensures that this trail will offer incredible sights of the foliage. This trail comes in at two miles roundtrip, making it a wonderful option for those with minimal hiking experience and for those with children.

When To Shut Down Your Air Conditioner

Just yesterday we were talking about temperatures in the seventies.  Now as Tuesday rolls around we are back in the eighties.  The National Weather Service forecast shows that later in the week we will be back near ninety degrees Fahrenheit.

If you don’t like Arizona weather you just have to wait for it to change. With the exception of our run of ninety days or so where we are always (or nearly so) over 100 degrees. Our weather varies quite a bit. Yet it is nearly always has very pleasant hours.  Yes, just like the next few days we may need air conditioning in the afternoon, but, the mornings and evenings will be beautiful.

Speaking of evenings the Valley of the Sun is the one place where the AC unit may run during the afternoon but you will need a blanket before the night is over as the outside temperature drops into the fifties (even the low fifties).

Since we all agree that the Phoenix Metro area has really great weather most of the time (say eight out of twelve months) we can use our time to do the things we want.  While we won’t be able to ride a snowmobile here in the desert we can go dirt biking in January or February.  But just one-hundred-twenty miles north in the Flagstaff area we can unload that snowmobile and cruise through the forests.

We started this by asking when we can shut down the air conditioner.  Well with most modern units it is just a matter of money the switch from cool to heat. In some older homes you need to slide out a sheet metal diverter or move a damper control arm when you change over.  You may even need to light a pilot light on your furnace.

When the time comes Aaron’s Mechanical Services looks forward to coming to your home and do the conversion for you and check over all the items that will keep you warm and comfortable for the next few months.

When you are ready for your heating tune-up we are as close as your phone at 623-388-4436.

When it comes to servicing and fine-tuning your furnace, this job should be left to professionals. Here are the steps that might be included in a typical furnace tune-up.

    Conduct a Visual Inspection
Remove the Covers and Check the Filter
    Check the Blower
    Remove and Clean the Burners
    Reassemble the Components
Perform Safety Tests (With a Gas Furnace a very important test)

First No AC Day Since April

Here we are the 3rd day of November and yesterday is the first day since way back in April that the air conditioner didn’t run at all. Does that mean that Fall has officially arrived in the Phoenix Metro area?

That sure sounds good to me. I guess it is too much to hope for that the cacti will soon be turning fall colors.

All kidding aside, the Valley of the Sun has some of the best fall seasonal weather you can possibly ask for. We can all agree that the fall, winter, and spring weather and temperatures are the three big reasons we call this home.

Now we do have very mild winters but for us, who are use to one-hundred-ten degrees Fahrenheit in the summer, find the need for a bit of toasty heat for many days during our late fall, winter and very early spring.

Is your heat pump, HVAC or furnace ready for its winter job? Do you know or are you just hoping it is ready to go?

Your system needs two tune-ups a year.  One to be ready for summer cooling and then one for the winter heating season. The sooner you get that done the better off you are. Don’t put it off.  Give Aaron’s Mechanical Services at 623-388-4436 to schedule your winter heating system tune-up. Don’t wait till the last minute. You could be left out in the cold, so to speak.

Did You Know?

Does the Phoenix Metro Area ever get below freezing?
