Cool Arizona Places: Castle Dome City

Do you like to go exploring on weekends?  Are old ghost towns and mining towns high on your list?  Well here is one you may want to look up and visit.  Castle Dome City sits tucked in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, far away from civilization. With the gorgeous back drop of the Castle Dome Mountains, this old ghost town is one of the oldest and important in the state. Castle Dome Mine Museum sits on Highway 95 between Yuma and Quartzsite.

Mining in the Castle Dome area dates back to the 1400’s. Both Spanish and French people have mined near Castle Dome. Evidence of this can be seen by their trail markers (slashed cacti) as well as the actual mines themselves. The Spanish Used Indian slaves to mine the minerals. The ore was more often then shipped back to Europe where it was traded.

Political strife and war with the local Indians forced the Spanish to leave. The 1781 Quechan Revolt is a perfect example of this. It was not until the 1850’s when the first American miners arrived. They were Col. Snively and Herman Ehrenburg. Here’s a quick background on Snively: Jacob Snively was born in 1809 in Pennsylvania. In 1835, he moved to Texas and helped fight for independence. Snively led the Snively Expedition of 1843 after opposing troops had been defeated in 1836. Because Snively was held in a Mexican jail after this, his expedition of 1843 allowed him to easily slaughter any Mexican wagons in the territory, part of his mission. This expedition was soon ended and Snively was promoted to colonel and served as a Secretary to Sam Houston, then governor of Texas.

In 1864, Snively found high grade silver galena near Castle Dome. A small brush house and tents marked the first structures at Castle Dome. The prices of silver rose and more and more came to Castle Dome. A boom town sprang up and Castle Dome City claimed a mercantile, five bars within a mile, sheriff’s office, a jail, a hotel, a doctor’s office, blacksmith shop, barber shop brothels, a school and many houses.

In 1871, mines were patented at Castle Dome, making this the 2nd patented claim in Arizona. The mining district exploded having over 300 mines and the large companies invested in mining, made Castle Dome even more successful.   Large capital was supplied by big companies in New York City and San Francisco and some of the biggest wagons in the world were built here to haul supplies.

By the late 1870’s, a stagecoach stop was established at Castle Dome. During this time period, the stage line from Yuma to Phoenix was routed through mining town. One could literally catch the 3-10 to Yuma from Castle Dome.

Castle Dome is very interesting and unique. It is said that Snively is claimed as the first citizen in Arizona. In addition, Snively met Jack Swilling here, become good friends with him. Castle Dome is also one of the oldest mining districts in Arizona, as well as one of the first big strikes. Finally, Castle Dome is home to the largest silver-galena bar in the world as well as a pair of Levi’s that are over 100 years old!

Will Vinyl Siding Save Me AC Money?

Wow, there is a loaded question if I have ever read one.  So you have been approached to add vinyl siding to your home. Let’s take it even farther you are considering some type of new siding for your home.  You want to know if it will save money on your energy bills, Right?

At first the answer must be a great big maybe.  The R value of your existing home must be known and how drafty your home is.  A well sealed and well insulated home will use less electricity than one that is not well sealed and well insulated.

Many older homes would benefit from added insulation regardless of the new siding used. Putting the insulation inside the wall cavity is the best way to do it and is more than likely the most expensive way to do it.

Many companies use a three-quarter to one inch thick foam insulation under the siding. Yes, this will increase the R value of your walls and if the home is not unusually drafty that will lower your utility bills.  But what you have to understand it will be a percentage of your bill and we aren’t talking 50% or even 33%.  At best the savings will be in the 10% range.  The siding material itself will have little effect on the insulating properties.

If you are siding a home that is completely uninsulated the savings might reach 15%.  Keep in mind that the normal culprit to heat loss and gain is through the roof and ceiling insulation or lack there-of.

Typically older houses were built with poor levels of insulation. As insulation ages, it compresses, becoming less effective at preventing heat transfer. Dust and moisture also contribute to the aging process in insulation. For areas with extreme heat like Phoenix, it is cost-effective to increase the insulation up to R-42.

With proper insulating materials here are the thicknesses vs the normal R values.
3 inches = R-9
6 inches = R-19
10 inches = R-30
13 inches = R-42

Blowing in a foot of fresh new insulation in your attic may be the cost effective insulation you could possibly do.

If you have single pane windows you may get more insulation factor by changing windows vs re-siding your home’s walls.  The materials of your walls and the size of the window need to be factored into this decision.

Tune-ups and maintenance on your air conditioner is an excellent way to reduce you cost of operation without resorting to rebuilding your home.  A new more efficient Air Conditioner (measured by the SEER rating) is another cost effective consideration.

AC During The Last Week Of August 2013

If you have been listening to the National Weather service the last few days you know that the next five days in the Phoenix Metro Area is not going to be baking in hot dry record breaking temperature.  If fact you might say we are in for a real cooling off period.

I hope you won’t mind if I break that weather down into the days that are coming.  We start the week with 101 degrees and rising to around 106 degrees for the end of the week.

I don’t know about you but with high humidity and the chance of thunderstorms every day means I don’t plan on trying to exist without my Air Conditioner.  Ninety degrees plus and very high humidity means you won’t be cool and comfortable without a proper and efficiently running AC unit.

So we have back-east humidity and our typical 105 plus daytime temperatures.  That is just plain hot and sticky.  So we are more likely to be uncomfortable this next week than if we had our normal hot and dry climate.  I’m not sure why the television weather men are crowing about how great the weather will be next week.  Doesn’t make sense to me.

The main thing is that you know what to do “when” your Air Conditioner does need service or replacement.  We hope you know to call Aaron’s Mechanical Service at 623-388-4436 to get Fast and Fair AC Repair.

So if you need some help keeping cool and comfortable by using us for your air conditioning repair now you know who to call.

Just a quick note for this last week of August, did you know that Monday August 26th is National Dog Day.

If you are in the market for a new pet? Now is the time to buy. The Maricopa County Animal Care and Control spokeswoman Melissa Gable said they're reducing adoption fees on dogs and cats in celebration of "National Dog Day."

Dogs under three months of age are available for $50 and dogs older than three months are $17. All cats older than three months can be adopted for free. Cats under three months are $50. The prices run through August 31st and will help them empty their kennels and make space for the 100 to 120 new animals that enter their shelters every day.

Remember to keep you pets, dogs and cats, cool and comfortable as well as the humans in your household.

At Aaron’s Mechanical Service we want you to stay cool and comfortable all year round.  If your AC unit needs service or replacement please think of us and call at 623-388-4436 and we will come to you and solve your air conditioning service needs.

Our Lows Are Your Highs

Summer is always known for high temperatures, that is a given. But here in the Valley of the Sun the Phoenix Metro area’s night time lows are often the daytime high for most of the country.  Yes, our night time lows are often in the high eighties to the mid-nineties.

That means that even during the night your air conditioner is running just as much and working just as hard to keep you cool as most AC units are running during peak afternoon heat in the rest of the country.  We have a much different need for Air Conditioning here in the Phoenix area than all but a very few areas in the US.

In the average summer climate for most of the country they need cooling for a few hours during peak afternoon heating.  By contrast here in Phoenix our AC Units must run every hour of the day to keep us cool and comfortable.  This happens even in well insulated homes.  It is not uncommon for the temperature to exceed 90 degrees for 20 hours every day for 110 days per year.  In some cases that happens for twenty days in a row at a time.

While a few days during the summer we get (usually storm related) an average high that will be in the nineties and not over the century mark.  During those days the night time low may be in the high seventies.  The exception is when the cloud cover holds in the heat and there is little cooling effect during the night.

If you ask the tourism board and the Chamber of Commerce they hate to read articles where we relate the highs in the Phoenix metro area with other areas of the country.  They are afraid that the chatter about our “heat” will scare away folks from other parts of the country.

These promotional folks try to remind us that with our low humidity Arizona has what is called a “dry” heat and that a temperature of 104 degrees Fahrenheit on a dry day feels like the mid to upper nineties in other locals.

Air Conditioning is a way of life in the valley area.  Our dry desert air still needs plenty of air conditioning to keep us cool and comfortable.

For a tune-up, repair or even a replacement please consider using Aaron’s Mechanical Service, the home of Fast, Fair AC Repair.

We want to be fair in our articles and we know there are other pockets of dry and very hot around the county, Palm Springs and Death Valley California to name a couple.  But, the Phoenix metro area is the largest one in the country.  If you are looking for hot and dry we are the place to come.  Consider also that many folks vacation here in the winter months and go golfing and swimming at our resorts while it is freezing back home.  The yin and yang of it.

At Aaron’s Mechanical Service we want you to stay cool and comfortable all year round.  If your AC unit needs service or replacement please think of us and call at 623-388-4436 and we will come to you and solve your air conditioning service needs.

Cool Arizona Places: Vermilion Cliffs National Monument

Looking for a great place to get out of the heat of the southwest desert? This weekend you may want to try a Hike at the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument.

This remote and unspoiled, 280,000-acre Monument is a geologic treasure, containing a variety of diverse landscapes from the Paria Plateau, Vermilion Cliffs, Coyote Buttes, and Paria Canyon. Elevations range from 3,100 to 7,100 feet.

Visitors will enjoy scenic views of towering cliffs and deep canyons. Paria Canyon offers an outstanding three to five day wilderness backpacking experience. The colorful swirls of cross-bedded sandstone in Coyote Buttes are an international hiking destination. There are also opportunities to view wildlife, including California condors. There are two developed campgrounds just outside the Monument: Stateline and White House. Dispersed camping is allowed outside the wilderness area in previously disturbed areas.

A permit is required for hiking in Coyote Buttes North (the Wave), Coyote Buttes South, and for overnight trips within Paria Canyon. Visits to the area require special planning and awareness of potential hazards such as rugged and unmarked roads, venomous reptiles and invertebrates, extreme heat, deep sand, and flash floods.

Located on the Colorado Plateau in northern Arizona, Vermilion Cliffs National Monument includes the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness. The Monument borders Kaibab National Forest to the west and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area to the east.

From Flagstaff, travel north on U.S. Highway 89 to 89A at the Bitter Springs turnoff. From Kanab, Utah, take U.S. Highway 89 to the east or 89A to the south through Fredonia and Jacob Lake. There are no paved roads within the Monument. While the House Rock Valley Road/BLM 1065 is a maintained dirt road it may be impassable when wet. Other roads on the Monument require a four-wheel drive-high clearance vehicle due to deep sand.

Monument Manager: Kevin Wright • 345 E. Riverside Dr St. George, UT 84790-6714 • 435-688-3200

Hours: 7:45 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday • 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Saturday • Closed Sunday

Money Down The Drain?

Many people tell me that a running air conditioner reminds them of pumping gas… a bunch of money going down the drain.  Well we sure need our cars for transportation.

Here in the desert southwest the summer means we NEED our ac unit to stay cool and comfortable.  In fact proper cooling in the Phoenix Metro area is truly a matter of life or death.  Most people can not survive without air conditioning on the hottest of summer days.

In many parts of our great country people begin to talk about hot summer days when temps reach into the mid-eighties.  It is hard for them to imagine that we consider a day in the nineties to be a very cool summer day.

As we have mentioned it is 110 degrees plus yesterday today and tomorrow. Did I mention that is a reading taken in the shade and over grass.  Many new cars measure temperature these days and display for the driver’s information.  Most times they show readings well above the weather services given temperature.  No the cars aren’t wrong, that is the air temperature where they are measuring it and that is what your body is feeling.

Yesterday my car said the air temp was 116 while the radio was claiming just 108 degrees.  No wonder I was feeling good and hot.

When your air conditioner goes out you can chose from many companies to make a service call.  We would like you to consider using Aaron’s Mechanical Service and calling 623-388-4436 when you need help with an AC problem.  As we like to say Fast and Fair AC Repair.

Need Air Conditioning Repair? Call Us! We have been bringing Air Conditioning Sales, Service and Repair to the Valley of the Sun since 1994!

We help make life comfortable by bringing you Quality Work, Fair Prices as quickly as possible. Call us at 623-388-4436.

Did you know that based on 2012 usage figures Americans spend more than $22 billion a year on electricity to cool their homes with air conditioning — and use a whopping 183 billion kilowatt-hours, according to recent statistics from the U.S. Department of Energy.

A new and much more efficient Air conditioner (as rated the SEER number) would go a long ways toward reducing both the dollar amount and the kilowatts used.  In both cases you can save the money from the installation of a new AC unit.

At Aaron’s Mechanical Service we want you to stay cool and comfortable all year round.  If your AC unit needs service or replacement please think of us and call at 623-388-4436 and we will come to you and solve your air conditioning service needs.

Are you A Bit Tired Of This Summer’s Heat?

As we start into the third full week of August the National Weather Service and the local television forecasters are saying that for at least the next three days we are going to be pushing 110 degrees Fahrenheit.  That is within a couple of degrees of the record high for these days.

I sure hope your air conditioner is up to the task of keeping you cool and comfortable.  One thing to consider is now would be a great time to change your air filters, if you haven’t already done so. You don’t want a clogged air filter to lessen your AC unit’s efficiency. It will be working hard enough as it is.

Air conditioning systems typically have a filter upstream of the evaporator coil. This can be in the return grille or in special slots in the duct system and can be a fuzzy-looking or a folded paper filter. This filter removes particles from the air stream to both keep the air conditioning system clean and to remove particles from the air.

As the filter does its job, it gets loaded with more and more particles. This actually has the effect of making it more efficient, but it also increases resistance and reducing airflow. When this happens, it is time to change the filter. How long it will take to happen depends on how dirty the air is and how big the filter is.

If you don’t change the filter, the air flow will go down, and the system will not perform well. Not only that, but if the filter is too dirty, it starts to become a source or air pollution itself.

If you take the filter out completely, you would solve the low air flow problem, but this victory would be short lived. The particles that the filter would have taken out will now build up on your evaporator coil and eventually cause it to fail. Replacing your filter is a lot cheaper.

A clogged air filter will make your air conditioning unit work harder and spend far more of your hard earned dollars as well. Don’t wait till the filter is making whistling noises to replace it. You can get a good idea of the filters air flow by placing your hand next to an air duct after you have put in a new filter.  What you feel should be the correct amount of air flow.  If you fell the air flow has slowed down then it is time to replace your filter.

Which filter type should you buy?  There are AC air filters that range from two dollars each to more than twenty dollars each.  There are all different types and even some that can be cleaned rather than replaced.  You can even put in electronic air filters than do a much better job with the elimination of dust particles and allergens.  A clean air filter is what is important rather than just the type or style of filter.

At Aaron’s Mechanical Service we want you to stay cool and comfortable all year round.  If your AC unit needs service or replacement please think of us and call at 623-388-4436 and we will come to you and solve your air conditioning service needs.

Nine Tips for Hiring a Heating and Cooling Contractor

1. Study up — Find out about license and insurance requirements for contractors in your state. And before you call a contractor, know the model of your current system and its maintenance history. Also make note of any uncomfortable rooms. This will help potential contractors better understand your heating needs.

2. Ask for referrals — Ask friends, neighbors, and co-workers for contractor referrals. You can also contact local trade organizations for names of members in your area.

3. Call references — Ask contractors for customer references and call them. Ask about the contractor's installation or service performance, and if the job was completed on time and within budget.

4. Look for special offers — A heating and cooling system is one of the largest purchases you'll make as a homeowner. Keep your costs down by checking around for available rebates on energy-efficient ENERGY STAR qualified heating and cooling equipment. Begin your search at www.energystar.gov.

5. Look for ENERGY STAR ratings — ENERGY STAR qualified products meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and offer significant long-term energy savings. Contractors should be able to show you calculations of savings for ENERGY STAR heating and cooling equipment.

6. Expect a home evaluation — A contractor should spend significant time inspecting your current system and home to assess your needs. A bigger system isn't always better; a contractor should size the heating and cooling system based on the size of your house, level of insulation, and windows. A good contractor will inspect your duct system (if applicable) for air leaks and insulation and measure airflow to make sure it meets manufacturer’s specifications.

7. Get written estimates — When comparing contractors' proposals (bids), be sure to compare cost, energy efficiency and warranties. A lowest price may not be the best deal if it's not the most efficient because your energy costs will be higher.

8. Pass it on  — Tell friends and family about ENERGY STAR. Almost one-quarter of households knowingly purchased at least one qualified product last year, and 71% of those consumers say they would recommend ENERGY STAR to a friend. Spread the word, and we can all make a big difference.

9. Get the ENERGY STAR Guide — For complete information on keeping your home comfortable year-round, get the ENERGY STAR Guide to Energy Efficient Cooling and Heating
http://www.energystar.gov/ia/partners/publications/pubdocs/HeatingCoolingGuide%20FINAL_9-4-09.pdf?7c10-c004

Cool Arizona Places: Butterfly Wonderland

Normally we talk about cool places to visit in Arizona to get out of the summer heat.  This cool place is real warm year around, but then they have to be very warm and humid as they maintain a tropical climate for their butterfly area.

Butterfly Wonderland takes flight as one of the newest attractions in the Valley with a highly innovative, indoor rainforest environment featuring the largest butterfly pavilion in America.

You’ll be welcomed into a magnificent, lush, rainforest environment where thousands of butterflies from around the world fly freely, alighting on fragrant flowering plants and, quite possibly, on a friendly visitor’s shoulder or finger.

America's Largest Butterfly Atrium
Fluttering, flittering, flying. Stroll inside this 10,000 square foot atrium and stand in wonder as thousands of butterflies from around the world enchant with their grace and beauty. This dramatic, glass-enclosed atrium shelters a breathtaking rainforest environment with lush tropical plants, trees, waterfalls and a large Koi pond.

Among the favorite butterflies to see are the iridescent beautiful Blue Morpho butterflies from the rainforests of South America, the delicate looking Paper Kite butterfly and if you are observant, you might catch a glimpse of the Atlas Moth (technically not a butterfly!).

Ant Farm
This engaging live ant colony display encompasses several distinct environments, which allow you to follow these harvester ants while they go about their duties as part of a thriving community.

View the ants up close as they tunnel and are busy working together. Watch as they gather food for the colony and build anthills and mounds.

Honey Bees
Protected by glass and comprised of a large beehive, this elaborate exhibit allows each visitor to easily observe our pure bred honey bees as they go about their daily activities. Bees are one of the most important pollinators to our agriculture.

Are You Ready For 111 Degrees Again?

Well, here we are going into the second full week of August.  Have you looked at the forecast for the next seven days yet?  In three days we start into a five day period where some of the TV forecasters are predicting 110 degrees plus.

Is your air conditioner ready for many hours of 110 degrees Fahrenheit?  Are you trying to cool your home by thirty (30) plus degrees? At Aaron’s Mechanical Service we want to help you keep your home cool and comfortable.  We are as close as your phone and a call to 623-388-4436 will get us on the way to fix your problem.  If your AC Unit needs a tune up, we are there.  If you have waited too long and your air conditioner needs a repair, either minor or extensive, we are there.  If your ac unit has too many hours of service (or too many years) and it needs to be replaced, we are there!

Are you looking for fast and fair AC repair? Aaron’s Mechanical Service is there to be your friend in Air Conditioner repair.

How can you and your pets keep cool while you are waiting for your Aaron’s Mechanical Service technician to arrive?

First, try not to use heat producing appliances like the stove, oven, dishwasher, clothes dryer, etc... while your air conditioning is on the blink. You can always make sandwiches, get take out, or use the microwave to prepare meals. Wash dishes by hand and turn off as many lamps, as possible.

If you live in a two-story home stay downstairs when your A/C is not working. The lower level of your home will be much cooler than upstairs. Since warm air is less dense than cool air, warm air will rises, leaving your home feeling much cooler downstairs. And if you have a basement, let your pets go down there, as it will be even cooler.

Keep your window shades and blinds closed down. This will help keep room temperatures at their coolest.

Keep all floor fans and ceiling fans on constantly. It may not be cold air, but the continuous flow of air circulating your home will help keep you cooler.

Make sure you have lots of fresh cool water available so your pets and yourself. Both you and your pets need to stay hydrated.  Add ice cubes as needed to both your drinking glass and your pets’ bowls.

If you are going to be without air conditioning for an extended period of time, you might want to familiarize yourself with the warning signs of heat stroke in pets and other summer or high heat pet care tips.

At Aaron’s Mechanical Service we want you to stay cool and comfortable all year round.  If your AC unit needs service or replacement please think of us and call at 623-388-4436 and we will come to you and solve your air conditioning service needs.

Cool Arizona, A Great Reason to Visit Jerome

We have talked about Jerome AZ before.  But today we have two special recommendations.  A great place for lunch and a special place to visit.

Located high on top of Cleopatra Hill (5,200 feet) between Prescott and Flagstaff is the historic copper mining town of Jerome, Arizona. Once known as the wickedest town in the west, Jerome was a copper mining camp, growing from a settlement of tents to a roaring mining community. Four disastrous fires destroyed large sections of the town during its early history, resulting in the incorporation of the City of Jerome in 1899.

Founded in 1876, Jerome was once the fourth largest city in the Arizona Territory. The population peaked at 15,000 in the 1920′s. The Depression of the 1930′s slowed the mining operation and the claim went to Phelps Dodge, who holds the claim today. World War II brought increased demand for copper, but after the war, demand slowed. Dependent on the copper market, Phelps Dodge Mine closed in 1953. The remaining 50 to 100 hardy souls promoted the town as a historic ghost town. In 1967 Jerome was designated a National Historic District by the federal government. Today Jerome is a thriving tourist and artist community with a population of about 450.

OK, enough history.  First a lunch recommendation, the Haunted Hamburger.  What a view of the valley from their dining room and great food.  They have many great items on the menu.

When you are finished with lunch head on down to the Audrey Shaft Headframe Park.  Located right next to Jerome State Historic Park is the Audrey Shaft Headframe Park, which is open daily from 8 am – 5 pm. The Headframe Park is managed by the Jerome Historical Society External Link. At the Headframe park visitors can stand on glass above a 1,900 foot shaft. The shaft is 650 taller than the highest point of the Empire State Building! It is the largest wooden headframe still standing in Arizona; it was completed in 1918.

In 1912, James S. Douglas purchased and began development of the Little Daisy Mine. By 1916, Jerome had two bonanza mines. Copper production peaked in 1929, but the Depression and low grade ore deposits reversed the fortunes of the town. The Little Daisy shut down in 1938. Phelps Dodge took over the United Verde in 1935, but loss of profits brought the operation and Jerome's mining days to an end in 1953.

Douglas' grandfather began the family's involvement in copper mining in Canada. As an engineer and scientist, his father, James, traveled all over the world. Son James Stuart took to mining with gusto. It was in Nacozari, Mexico, that he acquired his nickname ("Rawhide") inspired by use of rawhide to reduce roller wear on a cable car incline.

During development of the Little Daisy Mine in Jerome, his men cut into an extremely rich ore vein just in time for the soaring prices of World War I.

A Few Rain Showers Fall

Since we spend time talking about “Hot” and “Muggy” days we should follow-up when the Valley of the Sun has a cool and rainy day during our summer monsoon season.

Well, today Tuesday August the 6th is sure one of those days.  The high may end up being in the high eighties or low nineties.  A summer day in Phoenix AZ that has highs under 100 degrees Fahrenheit is very rare.  But today will be one of those days.

You can be sure that very few AC units will fail today.  They just won’t have to work as hard.  Of course some air conditioners will fail and if that happens you may have to consider yourselves lucky.  With fewer failures you should have an easy time finding a service company to come to your home and do the repairs.

We hope that should your AC fail today that you will think of calling Aaron’s Mechanical Service at 623-388-4436 and get us started so your repaired ac unit can keep you cool when the temperatures climb back into the 108 degree range by Thursday.

So enjoy the nice cool Arizona summer day and watch the rain softly fall.  It is not very often that we have this kind of day during the summer.  So go enjoy the rain and low temps.

A well maintained air conditioner not only keeps running but it will keep you cool for less money than an AC unit that is not in great shape.  That is where a great service tech comes in.  His knowledge and skill will do the right thing when it comes to your repair.  Just be careful who you call.  Of course we think calling us at Aaron’s is your best bet.

Like any other major appliance, air conditioners have a tendency to breakdown just when you need them most. Luckily, annual AC maintenance and fast repairs are an easy way to prevent equipment failure and the inconvenience of air conditioning failures..

At Aaron’s Mechanical Service we want you to stay cool and comfortable all year round.  If your AC unit needs service or replacement please think of us and call at 623-388-4436 and we will come to you and solve your air conditioning service needs.

Be Air Conditioner Safe

We know how it happens, it is very hot outside. Maybe even muggy and your Air Conditioner stops running.  You want to get it running as soon as possible and you think, just maybe it is something you can fix.  We know the thinking, it must be something simple.

You must understand that you AC unit runs on 220 volt AC power and more than likely it is on a 60amp circuit.  Just so you know 110 volts at 15 amps can kill you!

Most people have their ac on the roof.  On a single story home that means you are at least 15 feet above the ground.  What kind of ground is very important when it comes to a fall?  Is it nice soft well watered grass?  Or would you land on hard dirt or concrete.  Or is your AC unit on the top of a two or three story home?  A fall from that height will lead to serious injury or even death.  Of course a fall from a single story roof can also lead to serious injury or death.  It all depends on how you land and what you land on.

If the electrical power and a bad fall doesn’t give you pause, what can we say.  Well, how about if you mess with your air conditioner you could make the problem even worse and instead of saving money you will have to pay even more to fix both your mistake as well as the original problem.

Even if you find that the reason your AC isn’t running is as simple as a tripped electrical breaker, you need to know why that breaker tripped.  Is it the first time the breaker has tripped?  What is causing the overload?

We understand that there are websites and videos on the internet that purport to walk you through the diagnosis and repair.  How much can you trust the information?  We have reviewed several of them and have found serious items that they overlook.  Some feature disclaimers on their advice and instructions.  If something goes wrong it is not their fault.

If you need Air Conditioning Repair? Call Us! We have been bringing Air Conditioning Sales, Service and Repair to the Valley of the Sun since 1994!  Don’t overlook the fact that we get plenty of exposure to ac problems on many different makes and models of ac units, after all we work in the Phoenix Metro area.  Here in the valley we have more ac units and more customers with different problems than nearly anywhere else in the world.

We support, repair and sell Rheem, Rudd, Trane, Carrier, Goodman, Goettl and all of the other major brands. We help make life comfortable by bringing you Quality Work, Fair Prices as quickly as possible.  Fair and fast, that us!

At Aaron’s Mechanical Service we want you to stay cool and comfortable all year round.  If your AC unit needs service or replacement please think of us and call at 623-388-4436 and we will come to you and solve your air conditioning service needs.

Wow, here it is the 1st of August and the Phoenix Metro area is reminding us why it is called hot and dry.  Today, at 1pm in the afternoon the temperature is already 107 degrees Fahrenheit. That means it will make 110 or 111 (maybe even 112 degrees) degrees before it starts to cool off.  Yep, tomorrow looks much the same.

By next Tuesday the heat may begin to slack off.  In the mean time you better hope your air conditioner is running as well as it can.  It needs to keep you cool and comfortable and to do it as efficiently as possible.  Otherwise you may have sell one of your children to be able to pay your power bill.  Ok, just kidding, but you know what I mean.

First question is very simple… Are you cool and comfortable enough?

Second question… Have you inched up the thermostat to try and save money?
