Normally when we see a temperature of say 107 degrees it is not uncommon for the weather service to say it feels like 102 or 103 degrees. At 10am today it says 88 degrees and feels like 96 degrees.
This means our famous “dry heat” is gone and we are putting up with real humid air. That means that later today when it hits 100 degrees it will really feel like 107 degrees. If we look at it that way we find we are still at the average temperature for mid July in Phoenix, Arizona. That sounds a bit like they is no “Free Lunch.” July is just plain hot in the Valley of the sun no matter how you cut it..
Those conditions mean we may say we are cooler today, but our air conditioners are working just as hard or even harder to keep you cool and comfortable as it cools and removes tons of moisture from your home.
Hot and sticky always seems more uncomfortable than hot and dry. Our body cools itself by evaporation. That is why we sweat. When it is humid your body doesn’t cool as efficiently as when the air is dry. So hot and humid days feel more uncomfortable than when our are is drier.
You may find that your setting on your thermostat will need to be turned lower so you feel as comfortable. The end result is you are spending more money to kept cool that you would when the dry air is even hotter.
