Did Your Air Conditioner Make It Through The Summer?

Did you start the summer cooling season with a silent prayer that your AC Unit made it through the summer.  Yes, I know that many folks think that, when their unit has been in service for many years.

Summer doesn’t officially end until the 20th of September and we will have highs above 100 degrees and in the high nineties for the next sixty to ninety days.

The next question is do you just need a good repair or does it make sense to replace your older AC unit.

Several factors are needed to understand the right side of the question – repair or replace your current air conditioner.

How long do you plan on living in that residence?

How old is your AC Unit?

How Efficient is Your Current Unit (SEER Rating)?

How much will the Current Repair Cost?

How Many Repairs have you had recently?

The most obvious sign is the need for constant air conditioner repairs – especially if those repairs get progressively more expensive. Let’s face it – if your air conditioner breaks down more than once in a summer, you can patch it up but it won’t be long before you need to replace it. If your need for air conditioner repair gets really bad, air conditioner replacement can actually save you some money by eliminating the need for costly repairs.

If you’re still on the fence about getting air conditioner replacement, think about this: how much time would it take before a new air conditioner pays for itself in terms of energy and repair cost savings? To figure this out, first determine the amount of energy you could save with a new air conditioner.

When you buy a new air conditioner, there are three things to remember. Don't buy an oversized unit. Buy an efficient model. And make sure that the unit you buy is installed properly.
