Is Air Conditioning Repair A DIY Project?

To save money is a major push these days for homeowners.  That is something we completely understand.  But, trying to turn air conditioner repair into a Do-It-Yourself project is not one we can recommend.

Every so often, I run across articles on the Internet about DIY air conditioning repairs.

In the Phoenix metro area most Air Conditioners are on the roof.  Climbing up to the top of your roof is not something that we feel is safe for many people.  If you have a tile based roof surface it is even much more dangerous.  On a hot summer day it is hotter on your roof than what the weather service or TV is reporting.  The danger of a fall or damage to your roof surface is a true concern.

Most air conditioners run on 240 volts with a 60 amp service.  Dealing with high voltage and high amperage is very dangerous and life threatening and not for anyone who isn’t fully trained for safe access.  We aren’t even going to open that door at all.  If you have any concerns about this call in a professional!

The refrigerant gas that your air conditioner uses is tightly regulated by several governmental agencies.  Recharging or replacing that gas needs special gauges, hoses and connections.  Dealing with the high pressure side can expose the user to situations that could lead to injury or precipitate a fall.

In some cases even with the power to the unit off a shock hazard can still exist.

Cleaning debris from the coils can seem straight forward, but water spray inside the cabinet can cause damage when you’re A/C unit is restarted.

If you feel that we are saying that DIY repair on your AC Unit is not something we recommend then this article has done its job.  We want our customers and friends to be safe and healthy.

We are never the one making claims about cheap prices (which usually means low quality work) but fast and fair prices… yes, that is a good description of Aaron’s Mechanical Service.  Give us a call to get started solving your AC headaches. That’s 623-388-4436, Thanks

  2. Thanks for the information. Since I am not very much of a handy man I normally just call a air conditioning service so I can get the job done right. Nothing is worse then trying to fix it and breaking it even more, trust me I have been there!

  3. With Residential AC maintenance, it’s as if your home or office were situated beside a fresh crystal clear flowing stream in the middle of a dense forest. The Guardian Air is today’s most advanced technology for boosting airborne oxidizers, and these oxidizers are crucial for our health.
