Smart Thermostats Help Save Money

Would you like to save between 20 and 50 percent on your heating bills this winter?  Using some “smart” home ideas and a smart thermostat you can.

There are programmable thermostats and then there are smart thermostats.  With a  programmable thermostat you can save by setting time zones when people are home and when people aren’t home and use that pattern to save energy while people are away.  During those times you can  keep your house cooler and not spend as much on heating costs.

What makes a “smart” thermostat better?  First they have sensors that monitor what is going on in your house on a real time basis.  If you leave for work an hour early the smart thermostat will detect that the house is empty and lower the temperature an hour sooner than one that is based just on time.

When coupled with a heating system that can be zoned (each room being individually controlled) it can adjust rooms so unoccupied ones are allowed to cool versus ones that are occupied and need to be warmer.

Smart thermostats can monitor the outside temperature and take that into consideration while heating your house.  They can even be set to monitor forecast patterns and figure that information into their heating program.

Using a security protocol or wifi connection they can be reprogrammed or adjusted from a smart phone or computer as well.

If you are using solar water heating as part of your heating and water heating processes the smart thermostat can help manage the two or a combined system to make sure you have both heat and hot water when you need them.

In an office environment a smart thermostat can also monitor critical temperature needs and correct or notify a user if there is a problem.  If you have a tropical fish tank and expensive aquatics you will not find a tragedy when returning from a weekend off.
