Simple Money Saving Tips

Always close your draperies on the sunny side of your house to block the sun’s rays and reduce solar heat gain.

Consider using light colors to reflect heat and reduce cooling costs. So when it comes time to consider painting your home or replacing the roof shingles or tiles chose the lightest colors that fit your needs.

Plant deciduous trees (the ones that loose their leaves in the winter) to add great shade in summer and let the sun light through in the winter.

Plant small shrubbery near the foundation of your home to shade the lower half of outer walls. Place your plantings at least three feet away from the foundation and walls to prevent water damage.

Use oscillating stand or ceiling fans to circulate air and make you feel cooler at a higher temperature setting on your thermostat.

If possible do your typical moisture-producing chores in the early morning or at night when it’s cooler. This includes washing clothes or dishes, mopping floors and watering indoor plants.
