Cool AZ Places: Is Great BBQ Worth A Two and Half Hour Drive?

Now there are BBQ fans and there are Barbeque FANS (or is that Barbecue?). Would you drive two and half hours north to Williams Arizona for great barbeque (and, of course, much cooler weather)?

If you would drive 2½ hours for great BBQ then you are truly a Barbeque FAN!

Oh, you want to know where, who or what, is the name of this BBQ place that is worth a two and half hour drive… Fair enough.

It is Cruiser’s Route 66 Café on the corner of East Route 66 and 3rd Street in downtown Williams Arizona. If you look up the word “eclectic” in the dictionary it really should feature a picture of Cruiser’s 66 Café.  But, the true test is the food and from personal experience we can say great BBQ! Yes, they have many other items on the menu but our sampling was chicken and brisket.

The food arrived at our table so fast that we actually didn’t expect it to be good at all.  Were we in for a surprise.  The food was… delicious, juicy and very tender.  The barbecue flavor was just right and didn’t rely on a sauce poured over the meat, but rather was cooked into it as great BBQ should be. Our BBQ half chicken was one of the best we have ever eaten.  Three of us shared the two meals and it was more than enough.

If your crowd is made up of big eaters you might want to stay with a plate full apiece.

This text, direct from the website that captures the experience from their (very accurate) point of view.

“Dine tonight in our authentic 1930’s filling station on route 66! Housed in an old Route 66 gas station and decorated with vintage gas pumps and old-fashioned Coke ads, our cafe is a fun place for kids and parents. We are prized for our on location smoked barbecue, we also offer something for everyone such as burgers, spicy wings, pulled-pork sandwiches, steaks, salads and mesquite-grilled ribs cooked on our outdoor patio.”

The menu also lists vegan fair, but being a “meatatarian” we can’t accurately comment on the quality of that fare.

Is Great BBQ Worth A Two and Half Hour Drive? At Cruiser’s Route 66 Café we feel it is! We hope you agree.
