Will We See Record January 2014 Highs?

I just saw that the National Weather Service has some forecasts highs for the end of January in the eighties.  Now that is a pretty warm start for 2014.  Are those highs above, at or near records?

The record high temperature for January in Phoenix AZ is eighty-eight degrees in 1971.  It looks like that record will be safe. But we are sure well above the average highs of sixty-sevenish.

Since we are looking at records, the record low temperature in the Phoenix Metro area for January is a very cold sixteen degrees.  That was recorded in 1913.  It is unlikely that we will ever see that level of lows since the urban heat island keeps our nights much warmer than in the past years.

Our nighttime lows are still going to run in the mid-forties and you need some morning heat to keep your home warm and comfortable. If you need help or repairs with your heating equipment we hope that you will think of calling Aaron’s Mechanical Services first.  That phone call is 623-388-4436. Think of Aaron’s as being as close and handy as your pocket or purse.  We are your fast and friendly heating (and cooling) company.

Did you Know?

January and February are the peak months for the flu.

Pam cooking spray on your snow shovel makes snow removal easier… Oh, wait we don’t have that white stuff here in the Valley of the Sun.

Here in Arizona we run an anti-freeze mixture (about 50 / 50) in our cars cooling systems to help prevent boil over in the summer… go figure.

Few places (if any) in the U.S.A. offer better year around weather to ride a motorcycle. OK, the lower California cost area is just as good.

The Trust for Public Land this week released their City Park Facts. The report discloses a variety of public park-related data from America's 100 largest cities. As USA Today has already noted, the fastest-growing park type in the country is now dog parks:

Portland OR, Norfolk VA and Las Vegas were the top three for puppy parks. The Phoenix area didn’t make the top ten.  The strange thing is we didn’t make the top ten when it came to swimming pools either. Tucson to the south of us did make the top ten for pools.

Scottsdale made the top ten public baseball diamonds coming in at number six.
