Cool Places: Sunrise Park Arizona

There are places within just a few hours drive of the Phoenix Metro area where you can satisfy that urge to ski. These make great day trips from the Phoenix area for family outings or weekend ski getaways with your friends. If you don't want to spend the money on plane tickets to Colorado, Utah or Vermont, just get in your car and head to the Arizona ski slopes. 

This week we are going to feature Arizona's premiere family ski resort in the heart of the White Mountains. Sunrise Park is the largest with 65 runs over three mountains. The runs have a vertical drop of 1,800 feet. It is located in McNary in the Arizona White Mountains. Sunrise is approximately  220 miles from Phoenix. Directions here Sunrise Park Resort is owned and operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe.

Sunrise operates eight ski lifts. Here are the prices for lift tickets and season passes at Sunrise. There are also over 13 miles of trails for cross country skiing and there are special programs available for children so they can enjoy their time in the snow. Lodging is available at the Sunrise Park Lodge.

Just minutes away from the slopes, their cabin style Lodge is the perfect way to spend a weekend at Sunrise. Their facility includes a pool and Jacuzzi, arcade room, fine dining and full service bar. Take State Hwy 87 north to Payson. From Payson, take State Hwy 260 east following the Mogollon Rim to Show Low. At Show Low, continue on Hwy 260 through Pinetop-Lakeside and McNary to State Hwy 273. Turn Right on Hwy 273. Sunrise Park Lodge is four miles south on Hwy 273 and the Sunrise Ski Area is three miles past the lodge.
