If we look at the National Weather Service forecast for April 21st, 2014 we find that they are predicting ninety-eight degrees Fahrenheit for the Valley of the Sun. The interesting news is that over the next ten days the daily temperatures will rise and fall from today’s high and perhaps as low as eighty degrees but not approaching the century mark during those days.
Most of us have been running our air conditioners to cool off our homes when we return from work. No one wants to suffer with the high nineties and our homes getting too hot to be comfortable.
Were you one of the folks that found their air conditioner wasn’t working when it was first fired up this spring? A tune-up special service from Aaron’s Mechanical Services would have prevented that nasty “no cool air” surprise.
Based on the weather forecast it looks like the first 100 degree day for the Phoenix Metro Area just may well be next month rather than April. After all the average first one-hundred degree day is May 13th. Will it hold off that long this year? I’m betting we will see a 100 (plus) degree day before that this year.
While many locations have seen snow in the last few days I think it is safe to say spring has returned to much of the country.
Did You Know?
Across the Phoenix Metro Area it is not uncommon for a difference of ten degrees or more from the highest temperature to the lowest at any given time. Greater Phoenix covers a large area. Your location may be at a higher elevation or have more surrounding vegetation, for example. Official readings in Phoenix may be as much as five or ten degrees different than other parts of the Valley of the Sun (maybe hotter, maybe cooler) at any point in time.
At any single point in the Valley of the Sun the temperature may shift 40 degrees during a twenty-four hour cycle.
Over the last one hundred years the average daytime high in Phoenix Arizona has gone up. This is attributed to the loss of vegetation and the increase in pavement and buildings.
The official temperature for Phoenix is taken by the National Weather Service at Sky Harbor International airport. They use what is called an Automated Surface Observation System (ASOS) to record weather data.
