Cool Arizona Places: We Say “Time To Go North Young Man”

Courtesy of Arizona Fish and Game
We have modified the very famous line “Go West Young Man” to better serve this time of year here in the Valley of the Sun. To stay cool and visit Arizona it is time to take your family and Go North!

Here is a quick recap of the original quote; "Go West, young man" is a quote by American author Horace Greeley concerning America's expansion westward, related to the then-popular concept of Manifest Destiny.

Greeley favored westward expansion. He saw the fertile farmland of the west as an ideal place for people willing to work hard for the opportunity to succeed. The phrase came to symbolize the idea that agriculture could solve many of the nation's problems of poverty and unemployment characteristic of the big cities of the East. It is one of the most commonly quoted sayings from the nineteenth century and may have had some influence on the course of American history.

Some sources have claimed the phrase is derived from the following advice in Greeley's July 13, 1865 editorial in the New York Tribune, but this text does not appear in that issue of the newspaper. The actual editorial instead encourages Civil War veterans to take advantage of the Homestead Act and colonize the public lands. “Washington is not a place to live in. The rents are high, the food is bad, the dust is disgusting and the morals are deplorable. Go West, young man, go West and grow up with the country.”

With the Phoenix Metro area running daytime highs of near 100° this weekend it is time to consider weekend recreation in the northern half of Arizona.

Of course you can stay here and be cool and comfortable in the air conditioning or cool off in your pool if you want. Can we take a moment and ask if you have taken the time to do an Aaron’s Mechanical Services tune-up on your AC unit or HVAC system? Simple to do just call us at 623-388-4436.

You can see more and stay cool in the outdoors if you travel an hour or so north of the valley.  Are you and your family fans of fishing?  After you get your license the Arizona Game and Fish department has a website that lists the “Hot” fishing destinations that they update as the seasons change.  http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/fishing.shtml

This week they give the following info on the site: “Anglers may want to target Fool Hollow Lake and Show Low Lake, where large  rainbow trout (13 inches of average length) are being stocked this week. Crappie have begun to spawn at Roosevelt Lake, but not in big numbers. The angler pictured above reported catching this 15-inch, 2-pound crappie last weekend from Rosy. Sounds like plenty of largemouth bass are in a full spawn at Apache, Saguaro and Canyon lakes. Once again, it’s crucial to release these fish quickly and move on to another spot to ensure these bass spawn and produce plenty of fish for the future.”
