Still 90 Days Until Arizona Cools Off

Back in June 2013 we did an article on the next 120 days of brutal summer heat here in the Valley of the Sun.  This is our update and follow up to that article.

The good news is that we have survived the first 30 days and now have ninety days left.  Now is a good time to ask – How is your AC unit doing?  Is it keeping you cool and comfortable?  Does your home feel as cool as you would like it?  

Perhaps even more important how are your power bills doing?  Are you paying more to stay as comfortable.  Have you sneaked your thermostat up a degree or two to save money?  Overall is the balance of your cool and your money going the way you would like it?

Right now somebody out there is realizing that their AC isn’t running and should be.  They best question is that somebody, you? Here are a few ideas to help you through the next 90 days.

1. Do what ever you can after the sun goes down
2. Spend as much time in the shade as possible
3. Spend time in a pool, yours, the neighbors or a public one
4. Cook outdoors rather than indoors.
5. Always stay hydrated… that means water. No other liquid works as well
6. Dress in loose fitting cotton clothes
7. Be 10 to 20 degrees cooler… Visit the Northern side of the state and cool off at high elevations
8. Eat spicy food. As if you're not sweating enough, right? Well, in this case, the extra perspiration will help in telling your body just how hot you are. That will enable the sweat pores to open up a bit more, allowing a natural cooling effect. It doesn't mean your best bet is an all-you-can-eat Buffalo wing joint, but a little Mexican or Indian food might indeed do the trick.
