Save Money With The “Right” Air Conditioner

To save money and use less energy, you’ll want to buy the right air-conditioning unit for your space. The cooling capacity of an air conditioner is measured in British thermal units, or BTUs. Too many BTUs in a small space can waste energy, while too few won’t do the job properly. A number of variables can affect the type of air conditioner you need, such as windows, ceiling height, traffic and sunlight.

Of course hiring the right Air Conditioner contractor means you don’t need to worry about getting the “right” air conditioner for your home or business.

With our local temperatures putting us in the “Excessive Heat” category over the last ten days you need to have an AC Unit that is perfect for our Arizona Desert climate.  Just a handful of places in our great country have as many days over 110 degrees as the Valley of the Sun, Phoenix Metro area.

You know the Arizona climate is different when you speak with people in other parts of the country that complain about being around 95 degrees and here we think of 95 degrees as being a very cool summer day.

As we all know during the summer, air conditioning will cause really high electric bills, and I would hate to think that you might be spending more money on electricity than you have to. With central air conditioning, here are some ways that you can take care of your air conditioner to keep it running efficiently, which will save you money.

Change your air filter every month. Changing your air filter is as important for your air conditioner as changing the oil is for your car. Put in a new filter at the start of summer, and then at least once every  month after that. If you live where it is windy or there is construction, or if you have allergies, you might need to change it more often.

Check your ductwork for leaks. You don’t want all the cold air to leak out into your attic, so check to see if you notice any holes where air escapes. There are two common types of ductwork: flexible ducts and rigid metal ducts. Flexible ductwork is often used because it’s faster to install, but it doesn’t last as long. Metal ductwork lasts longer. If you have holes or leaks in your flexible duct, it’s time to replace it. If you have a leak in metal ductwork, you can seal it with…a foil metal tape.  Never use  Duct tape it is really NOT the right product.
