Hybrid Gas / Electric Heating And Cooling Systems
The latest craze in the heating and air conditioning industry seems to be the new gas/electric hybrid heating and cooling systems. While split system hybrid units can be more fuel efficient than a hybrid gas pack, the split system won't fit in every situation. Split systems consist of a heat pump/air conditioner, that is married to a high efficient gas furnace. For those of you who have an attic, a crawl space, or an inside closet, this split unit combination is perfect, but in some homes, it simply won’t fit.
Finally a solution has arrived -- a hybrid gas/electric packaged unit that sits outside your home and serves as both an air conditioner and high efficient heating system.
The concept of using fossil fuels along with electricity to increase the efficiency of a heating system isn’t new, however, electronic technology and the high cost of fuel is now making hybrid gas-pacs affordable for the average home owner.
Hybrid gas-pacs take advantage of both heat pump & gas technologies and automatically switches to the one most efficient for the outdoor temperature. When it is chilly (above 40ºF), the system operates off of electricity, providing the heat pump’s steady, mellow heat. But when it turns cold, the hybrid gas-pac automatically switches to its internal gas furnace and its warmer, toasty air. The result is the ultimate in comfort.
Actual savings may vary based on the utility rate of any given month, how you use your system, and of course, the weather. With today’s skyrocketing energy prices, a hybrid gas-pac, could save you as much as 38% over last year’s bill.
In short, a hybrid gas-pac offers homeowners a more efficient way to heat and cool their homes, all in one compact, outside unit.
