A lot of folks are very comfortable during an Arizona summer and that means one thing and one thing only, they have a good and properly running Air Conditioner.
However after a short while some of them forget that the AC Unit is working very hard to change the outside temperature at 112° Fahrenheit (and many times much more) and keeping the inside of their home at a comfortable 72°. To keep an HVAC unit running at it most cost efficient they need proper care and that means a tune up every cooling season or the “M” word, Maintenance.
You may find specials on “AC Tune-ups.” For some companies this is an advertising gimmick to get them into your home. But a proper maintenance program can stop future problems with your unit. So rather than a “cheap” tune up what you need is the right maintenance for your unit based on the manufacture, size, age and the current state of the AC unit.
What you want in a AC Tune-up is a good technician that knows your type of unit and cares about making sure you have a reliable and trustworthy Air Conditioner. There is no substitute for years of experience. If the company is structured correctly a newer technician can reach an older. More experienced tech by phone if he has any questions about a unit he might be seeing for the first time.
A tune-up should not be just an inspection and testing, but, real maintenance of the unit. The difference is when the technician is there the unit is brought back to near factory spec condition. You can’t expect a many year old unit to be like new again but it should work as close to new as possible based on its age.
This is better for you as far as costs are concerned and it means the unit shouldn’t let you suffering from an outage on the hottest day of the year. If your unit is a combined Heat / Cool HVAC unit it means the maintenance needs to occur twice a year.
