Weird Weather For A Phoenix Spring
Even though this week is going to be a strange one weather wise, and usually here in the Phoenix Metro area we’re saying goodbye Winter and hello to Spring and Summer, we all know it’s only a matter of time before Summer heat is upon us, and with that comes air conditioner weather.
With a real dust storm and rain in the our area and snow fall in the north and higher elevations April in Arizona is normally much warmer. So here are some spring time AC tips.
If your Air Conditioner is a ground based one… Clear the area around your unit. This is a no-brainer, but sometimes we need to be reminded of this simple but important task. Just make sure the unit doesn’t have any debris on, over or around it, and that it’s not getting massive amounts of water pouring into it. Check your roof edge gutters. Doing this is essential to bringing in clean air into the home, and of course that air is used to cool as well.
We can say it often enough… Check your indoor air filters. Some homes have multiple filters, so we won’t get into that, but just know how many you have, and when you need to change them. Some need to be replaced yearly, and some permanent filters require regular care to get the best out of the system. If you use paper filters you want to check them or replace them at least monthly. Every time the valley goes through a major dust storm you need to check your filters. If it is around the time you would normally replace them just do that with no need to check them.
Time to test your AC unit… Last but not least, turn the unit and the thermostat on, and make sure everything is running accordingly. Did the unit turn on automatically at what seems to be a certain temperature? Does the unit start and run quietly or is it making a humming noise?
All of these problems and tips can be taken care of by a trained HVAC technician, and we’d recommend you consult with an expert before getting serious with Freon or specialized filters.
